it looks as though Illinois is about to become the only state without concealed carry. Wisconsin Republicans captured both houses of the legislature and the governorship, so within a couple of months they will have CC.

In Illinois, although both houses of the legislature are controlled by the Democrats, I was told by a state senator a week before the election that we had come within two votes in the last session of passing CC, but that then (unelected) Governor Quinn would probably not have signed the bill.
The Republican candidate had pledged to sign a CC bill, if it came to him, and in all likelihood it would have passed in the new session.

Unfortunately, the Libertarians, who cast enough votes for their no-hope candidate to more than make up the difference in the gubernatorial race squandered the best chance we will probably ever have for CC. I understand voting your principles, even though you are making an empty gesture, but that really hurt.

The Libertarian Party has a presence at every gun show I go to; I am looking forward to expressing my displeasure with them.

I think the point you make is definitely worth conveying- in the 2A forum, and with a different title.
I'll move it there.
We don't do general political discussion.

They(The Politicians) are not going to be happy until all the people are gone from here. Most of the big business has moved out and lots of people have left looking for jobs. How much longer before they wise up????

that's like asking a rock to float.

i hear you and share your pain. i thought for sure that the "Q" ball would be replaced.

alas, cook county dems are too strong and "dug in like an alabama tick"

I'm also from Illinois and live in "Crook" Cpounty. I don't know if Illinois will ever pass concealed carry. I've gone to the IGOLD marches in Springfield for the last 3 years, but my Rep. is never in!! Plus the news stations hardly cover it if at all. I guess all we can do is keep hoping and trying.

Sorry but I doubt it will ever do any good in Illinois, I just stay away.

It appears to me that the 1.7 votes for Quinn have more to do with the outcome than 34,000 libertarian votes.

Fact is, the republican candidate was a bozo. If the republicans want the libertarian votes, they should put up a candidate worthy of their votes.

When you constantly vote for the lesser of the evils, quit complaining when you end up with evil.

I used to live in IL, so I follow the news occasionally. Too bad CC has no chance there.

WI may finally get it though, although the republicans have already broken their promise to push for permit-less carry (similar to Arizona, Alaska, and Vermont) and will likely introduce a permit system.

I was born and raised in Illinois and even had a FOID card when I was elligable. I didn't know any better. I thought everyone needed the govt's permission to own a firearm. When I moved just across the muddy mississippi for work years ago, I realized how much of a nanny state Ill was. Needless to say, I won't ever move back. Sorry to hear that Crook County still has power over the rest of the state.

As long as the Dems in Cook County continue to garner the cemetary vote there is no chance. VOTE EARLY VOTE OFTEN. R Daley

Don't give up hope. I never thought shall issue would come to Michigan but we have it now.

I only vote Libertarian when my vote doesn't matter.
That isn't a slam to Libertarians, just dealing with the reality of the situation.

Its just depressing. I hope our new acting Gov. Earl Tomlin holds true to former Gov. Manchins gun resolve. He did pretty good for a Dem.

IL is an otherwise nice, midwestern state that is completely ruined by the asshats in Chicago.

It wasn't the libertarian vote, it was all the votes for independent Scott Lee Cohen, the disenfranchised winner of the Dem. primary for lt. governor. As much as I hate to say it, Illinoisans may be just too stupid to handle concealed carry. We elected Blagojevich. TWICE! Enough said?

It isn't very likely that the Cohen supporters are pro CC, however the Libertarians at least claim to be; therefore the onus is on them. As far as the possibility that Illinoisans are not bright enough for CC, because they voted Blago in twice, I'm pretty much OK with CC for only those who will swear that they never voted for Blago.

Very well said. Many folks in my part of Illinois have expressed that same feeling. These are also the folks who elected Clinton by voting for Perot.

Don't give up Illinoians. If Minnesota can do the "shall issue" then there is still hope. Talk about a Nanny state...

CC and Illinois

I too am rather weary of "fighting city hall" over my right to protect me and mine. Like it says above, I live in what was/or is one of the highest crime cities in the U.S. (although according to recent "polls" St. Louis, Mo. ain't so hot either). That said I can say that my home has only been broken into 3 times in all the time I've lived here! Also as a neighborhood we tend to be a pretty tightly nit bunch and can recognize trouble when it arrives, and more than one family of problems moved out because of our vigilence.
I do hope that we get CCW here some day! But until then I'll take care of mine the best way I can!

We had (R) Governors for 2 or 3 terms with Thompson, 2 with Edgar and 1 or 2 with Ryan and got no CCW then. What on earth makes my fellow IL residents think there's a snowball chance of getting it now; even IF the (R)'s were large and in charge again?

First, I don't believe Bill Brady is a BOZO, he had to be better than Quinn, I never voted for Blago and I didn't vote for Quinn......My friends ask who I'm voting for and I always tell them........whoever the NRA tells me to........They just don't understand......
