The problem exists because most of the local politicians are more interested in getting reelected than solving problems. Solving gang problems requires action socially unpopular. By proposing some useless gun regulation they can go to their constituency saying "see what I am doing to make you safe"...... and we all know how effective that is.
.45, that's just the point...There's not good reason under the sun it should cost 75K a year....Where's the veggie patch? Where's the dairy? Where's the laundry? Where's the hog farm? The chicken coops? Make something beside lic plates...Chairs, tables, anything..and sell it to recover some of the costs.
Don't you just love Ole Joe down there in Maricopa county? You will live in tents....No A/C...fans yes. If the soldiers can live in tents in the heat, then so can his prisoners. Eat baloney and cheese sandwiches. Don't like the green baloney or green cheese...tough....Chain gangs to clean up the sides of the roads...Have at it...TV not a problem,, they get to watch the Disney channel, that's it.
If a county can do it, so can a state prison.
If the military can give surplus personnel carriers to cities, then the military could also give surplus clothes to the prisoners and other surplus stuff.
No one can show or tell me, where any of what I said is cruel or unusual punishment.

Prison is nothing but a revolving door and a step up in status for those worthless punks. I say be a gang-banger = automatic 5 years in prison or one other choice--which is take a one way trip to Iraq armed with nothing but a knife. Maybe if they redeem themselves, just maybe they would be granted an acre of land somewhere in Madagascar.

from the chatter on the scanner tonight ... it sounds like folks in the area are kinda jumpy, waiting for the gangs payback for ratting out their homies.
I guess after these idiots were flashing gang signs while driving from where the cops got the tip ......

The media is WORSE than silent. They have begun promoting it. Ever seen an animated show called CHOZEN? How about giving gang-banging rappers Grammys and othe music awards?
Darned straight. Stop making "jail" an extended stay in a nice facility with cable TV, AC, rec room, weight room, 3 squares a day, etc. and make it some SERIOUS hard time. Make it someplace they NEVER want to come back to a second time. Work their butts to the bone for the benefit of the society they have injured. And only provide the bare minimums in terms of food, clothing, and shelter.

In the inner cities, dealing in drugs is the easiest way to make money. The young men join gangs to make money and for protection from other gangs. Most are not educated because that is not encouraged by their peers. Violence is a way of life and gangs that compete with each other kill their rivals as a means to limit the competition in the drug trade. This sets off a cycle of retaliation between the rivals. Collateral deaths are inevitable since most shootings are not done by marksmen but by a barrage of gunfire that does not care where the bullets go. Each person killed has a family that will encourage retaliation. Each person doing the killing has a family that will not give up their son to law enforcement. The culture feeds on itself.
If you can get someone in this environment out and educate them, then it may be possible to save some.
I believe that some prefer to just leave them alone and let them kill each other off.

Most people here are talking out there a. Education helps, but that is not the answer to everything. Plenty of hard working people dont go to college. Some cant afford it others it is simply to hard for, not every one is a genius. It must start in the community, just like the gangs started in the community. Heighten military standards are also helping with the increase in gang members. The military wont let people with GEDs in right now, thats alot of the population we are talking about. They also right now are refusing to write waivers for things like pot convictions. I know plenty of people that tried to join to escape the area they live in to be told they are not good enough (but you were when Bush was president, he lowered standards to meet recruitment goals). They are told they are not good enough, but they keep them registered for the draft. If your not allowed to fight as a free man you should not be forced to fight as a slave. That is only one small example of things leading to this, you could write a whole book on causes, effects, and solutions. Oh, and so some of you know many gang members earn very little money, it equates to about min. wage. Some do make lots of cash but most are broke as a joke, so what are they even fighting and killing for. Jails are "nice" (they are not nice but people think just because they have basic cable it is) for control reasons not to spoil prisoners, it is safer and easier for guards in this environment. You can have a system of rewards and punishment, while keeping prisoners occupied while they are not working. Yes working, most prisons make prisoners work a job, such as laundry or cooking.

I've always liked the idea of sending them to a Russian labor camp in Siberia. We can pay the Russians to incarcerate them, and I'll bet it would be a less than keeping them in a US prison. Instead of a reunion with their friends and family, they will fing their time to be very different. Food; watery fish soup and a slice of bread. Hard manual labor in all weather, even when it is 40 below. Russian prison guards that have no problem establishing who's boss. Those that survive their time in a Russian labor camp will not want to go back.

At this writing, there have been 17 murders in Baltimore since January 1...more than some states experience in an entire year. These killings aren't gang-related...they are just the result of 60 years of liberal social policies.
The demographics and backgrounds of both victims and killers are the same...but we can't talk about that. So our politicians and editorialists talk instead about 'gun crimes' and pretend that the problem is hardware rather than software...

Lots of things will help, buts it's kinda like giving cholesterol pills to someone with a steady diet of burgers and fries... Without more responsible fathers raising their sons, these gangs have an ever growing supply of new recruits.
This is a very good point. Bill O'Reilly has reported that the rate of illegitimacy in this country is over 40%, and among some demographic groups it's over 70%. Little boys need strong male role models, and many kids today don't have that in their lives.
Having spent 30 years as a firefighter in inner-city Baltimore, I saw firsthand what happens when you take fathers out of families, especially in poor communities, and it ain't good...
Any type of counter culture is acceptable to a certain point with the socialist movement, it helps in the breakdown of society and adds to the moral decay of the country. I'm serious.
these officers need more help taking these gangs down they could use the help from from the officer in Md who had to call in back up to detain a family for driving through the state with FL tags and no weapon and use the help of a Fl officer that wanted to shoot an other man in the back for legal carry
