Why my Walmart has plenty of ammo

I buy at Wally World because it is a half-mile away, and I don't have to risk CC numbers and info on the internet (a den of thieves in itself). I won't buy guns or ammo on the internet, as it does leave a trail, regardless of what security you think is in place.

There's only two numbers in the equation... the number of rounds being made, minus the number of rounds being shot and the resulting total has been a negative number for years.

Umm you can't shoot more than the number of rounds made.

It is simply that people are buying all the ammo they can.

AND I believe ammo supply is being constrained by the manufacturers.

I know a principle at a distributor that covers 11 states for ammo and gun products. He states flatly even as a distributor the SAME amount of ammo he has purchased and resold is NOT available. He is a major buyer. Placing orders for $500,000 worth of glocks in a 4 to 6 month period.

He states plainly that ammo especially 22 is NOT available in quantity from the manufacturers.

In NY I have liberal co-workers who state plainly they support ammo restrictions where no one can buy more than the amount they shoot at a time. In Israel you can only keep 50 rounds of ammo in your home.

A LOT of these people are well versed with Israeli style gun and ammo control and European gun views. They already are preaching AMMO should be heavily restricted and sold for use ONLY at ranges.

It is RATIONAL to buy now, plus with the dollar falling against commodities over time it makes sense too.

It makes more sense to get into air guns frankly.

The WM's near me seem to be getting back to normal.

The only limit is on 22LR (3 box limit).

Not sure about 22LR availability as I haven't been looking of late.

I score a couple of 500 round 223 Tula spam can for .25 a round!

Great price and no shipping charge.

Plenty of 40 S&W, 45, 38, 380, and 9mm is getting more and more common.

Plenty of 223 and 762 as well.

Good to see for sure.

I choose not to. Yesterday I had a little free time, so I cast a whole bunch of .41 and .357 bullets. Won't be long until they are ready to be taken to the range. Plentiful, dirt cheap, and accurate.

So, what are you going to do when you run out of powder and primers? Around here they are as scarce as .22 ammo.

Until a balance between supply and demand is restored, nothing is going to change.

There's only two numbers in the equation... the number of rounds being made, minus the number of rounds being shot and the resulting total has been a negative number for years.

One of those numbers has got to change to get a different total, we know we can't change the first one, but we dang sure as heck can change the second number in the equation, if people aren't willing to do that on a wide scale... welcome to the new norm in ammo availability and buying. Get used to it because we'll be stuck with for a long time.

Gun hacker this isn't directed to you. You just happened to post a familiar saying in today's world.

I disagree with number of rounds being fired vs made. I belong to 8 different gun clubs in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and two in NW Wisconsin. Every time I am at a club meeting or just on the range(s) I see and hear how membership and the number of people shooting AND how much they shoot has been declining for the past several years. So wher is all the ammo?

Of course I agree that ammo is in a state of flux but when you consider that a LOT more people are just buying everything they can get their gritty little paws on it is no wonder there is an artificial shortage.

Also consider that IF you had the ability to look into EVERY ammo retailer in America at one time- you would see about 30% to 40% of the ammo being delivered to retailers compared to 5 years ago. This figure came from a friend who is a employee at the Federal plant.

So it goes something like - when America quits stockpiling ammo in their basements, their relatives and friends basements and attics, we might as a country find a box of .22 ammo that sits on a shelf overnight.

Mostly my opinion and observations but sounds better than all the ammo being shot up.

I reload- last Saturday I walked into my favorite reloading store and was told that on Friday a guy comes in and bought him out of any and all powder, primers, brass and bullets dealing with all pistol and rifle calibers. $19k and change and to top off the day- the guy drove here from S Dakota to buy it all.

Wow- sorry for the novel. Gotta go cool off as this ammo thing really ticks me off all the way around.

Yep, Waly-World policy seems to be store to store. I bought eight boxes of .17WSM because, according to the nice clerk lady, they only had a limit on rimfire.

Shortly thereafter I ordered a SS .17 WSM. I wasn't going to buy the rifle w/o ammo on hand.

I found out the reason why they have a good selection when the clerk that got my ammo from the locked case told me that I could only buy one box of any caliber period, so I guess I will have to go there at shift changes and every day to resupply for all my weapons!

I went to Walmart a few days ago on a whim. They had Remington UMC Mega Packs in stock for .45 ACP and .40. I bought two packs of the .45 acp and the clerk didn't bat an eye. A month and a half ago they had .22 550 round packs in stock and would only let you buy one. Go figure.

My local Wal-Mart had a 3-box limit(any caliber, any size box) in place for a while. Eventually they tightened down 22 to one "bulk" box per purchase.

Things have lightened up, and nearly everything is now in stock with some reliability save for 22LR and 357 magnum. They've lifted the restrictions on everything except for 22, which I think is back up to 3 boxes at a time.
