Why no 2WD Ford F150s to be found?

I'll stick with my good ole Chevy 4x4. Nothing like playin in a little mud from time to time and I'm a hunter so its kind of a necessity for me.

You're doing it the hard way if you're pounding the dealer's used car lot pavement. Get your internet back and then use Craigslist, Ebay and autotrader to locate possible candidates, private owner always preferred over the dealer but I've made good deals with both. Make a phone call or send email if no number listed and see how seller responds. Keep your bs detector on high and search until you find the right vehicle. I buy and sell as a hobby and I've never seen so many bargains available in cars, trucks, boats, houses......if you've got cash in hand and know how to buy.
 
Now that 1954 Ford with the 4WD conversion is definitely hard core! When men were men, etc...

My Dodge Dakota is only two years younger than yours, so I'm not ready to replace it yet. I got the 4WD because I wanted to go out in the desert and shoot It's great for that. The advice I got was keep it in 2 WD; if you get stuck, go to 4 WD and it will get you out. If you stay in 4 WD and get stuck, you've got no reserve escept a shovel.

Only problem I've had in 19 years was when some jerk at a 'quick as a flash' lube only tightened the fill knob on the transmission finger tight. All the oil came ou and I spent $800 on a new transmission and transfer case.
 
I saw

Day before I saw a 1965 Ford F-100, aqua green, twin I-beam suspension (that was high tech back then). Now that would be fun to ride in in the middle of the summer down a dirt road by a watermelon patch with the windows rolled down and your arm hanging out the window and going 'Yeee-Hawwww". I'm glad that I know what that feeling is.:)

Just sold my 2005 Dodge 2500 diesel 4x4. Had had enough messing with that finicky little goat truck lol. Bought me a real truck :-D

2500 bucks gets delivered today I'm stoked to start the restoration just needs little things new dash door panels heck it even has AC and power windows and locks!
 
Last week I went looking for a replacement pickup. Not sure it is really time - 92 Dakota still runs fine - just getting tired of it.

Found several nice F150s, BUT every one was 4WD.

I did not want 4WD. The few times I got a truck stuck 4WD would not have helped. I do NOT tow HEAVY loads to need the extra traction.

Remember years ago a friend had EXPENSIVE problems with the 4WD parts in his pickup.

Have the factories really cured the expensive problems and made 4Wd that is nearly problem free?

That is my rant for the day.

4WD has gotten so much better in the last 25 years. In the five 4wd vehicles I've owned since 88' (Dodge, Jeep, Mitsubishi,Toyota and Nissan) All were trouble free in the drive train department. ( BTW, early90's Dakota's were known for tranny problems in the 4wd department. ) That said, they do tend to eat more gas ( Much of which is because they tend to have bigger tires and more wind resistant profiles.) Replacing a clutch will cost you more too since there is more to tear down.

The the point of your original observation, it's my opinion that it's hard to find ANY basically outfitted truck/car these days. Reason? I tend to blame the popularity of leasing. Since you bought your 92', leasing has become a wildly popular way for folks to drive vehicles they otherwise could not/ would not afford. With those lower lease (vs ownership) payments, people tend to "spurge" on options and trim levels they would otherwise pass on. The factories/dealerships just build and sell what the average customer wants. IMHO, what you are seeing is the result of the average "buyer" not wanting less than the top of the line. FWIW, I also believe that leasing is the reason that the price of a truck has doubled since the 90's.

After having such great experience with the 4.6 L V-8 in my current F150 (and the one before that) I would hesitate to venture into the V6.

Shove a 5.0 under the hood and I'm all in!
 
I bought a 2wd truck once because I never needed 4x4, until the one day I needed it.

There is really no point in having a 2wd anything, you don't have any disadvantage to having 4x4 any more.

I loves me the 4.6. Been running them in various Ford products for many years. Indestructible. Easy to work on. Wouldn't go down the road without one under the hood.

However, I couldn't help but notice that at the last walk-through of the local Ford dealer, every single F150 on that lot except for one had this disturbing little emblem on the passenger-side door:

So I guess V8 F150s are going to be a thing of the past in the not-too-distant future...
 
My history with F150s:

1993 5.0 V8 4x4 Supercab - 4 in suspension lift, 194k miles on original motor and transmission w/ zero major problems

2000 5.4 V8 4x4 Supercab - Stock 185k miles on original motor and transmission w/ zero major problems

2012 5.0 V8 4x4 Supercrew - 11k miles so far, no problems.

The current 4x4 with a locking rear and the traction control is amazingly capable. I've had no issues with any of my 4x4s, but that said the traction control alone on the new ones will get you through a lot more than most 2wd trucks out there.
 
I would say that in my part of the world 2WD F150s outnumber 4WD by 2 to 1. Some farmers and ranchers buy 4WD, and a few urban cowboys, but most real people buy 2WD. You see quite a few 4WDs as beach and beach fishing trucks, but most of them are rusted out and 10-20 years old. Anyone that drives a new truck along the beach or in the surf either has more money than good sense, or is crazy. Tell the truth having owned both 2WD and 4WD, most places in this part of the world there is no need for a 4WD, plus it gets worse gas mileage, costs more and just has more parts to break down.
 
Not anymore, the difference between by truck n 2wd and 4x4 was listed officially as 1mpg but real world its even less. I put nearly 200k on my old s10 without ever having to make any repairs. There is no disadvantage anymore to 4x4 and then its there should you ever need it.

could be ... I really hope Ford finally got around to building a proper 6 since the 170 special. I've not seen one since that I'd trust
