Why no Metal Magazine Release?

My full size M&P 4o would not retain magazines, because the magazine release button was stuck in the depressed position. I attributed this to the sticky nature of the both the part and the pistol frame.

Which got me to wondering: why is there no metal substitute for the plastic magazine release?

In looking at this forum, it seems other have had the same problem, and it has been rectified by SW sending them another plastic part. Trouble is, I bet the passage of time will age that part to the point it changes size or composition.

I spent 30 minutes on hold with SW today, and gave up on getting to speak to a person. I hope sending them an email will result in it getting handled by a competent person, and not some schlub in a call center in a far-off land. I miss the good ol days where a person answered the phone.

Anyone have other recommendations for a sticky mag release button? Anybody tried sanding em down for a looser fit?

The mag release is a hybrid part; metal encompassed by polymer.

Even so, sticking is not necessarily limited to the polymer. I've had 100% metal guns that had a similar problem. It has to do with how this part is fit to the frame.

I suggest taking it out, cleaning it off and giving it a little lube. See if that works. If you've already done that, ignore this suggestion.

Whatever the mag is made of, the release is also made of. At least they are made of equal material to say. Because u want them to wear together, not apart.

Metal on plastic doesnt work. And plastic on metal doesnt work. The plastic always wears out first. So yes, the release must have something that equals the composition of metal.
