Why not a 638 performance model?

While Smith and Wesson makes Performance models in the 642 and 637, I can't find any information that they make a Performance version of the 638 with the concealed hammer. Is this correct or am I missing something? It seems if they make Performance versions of the other two that they would make a 638 version.

They do not make a PC "bodyguard" I'm afraid. And probably won't, I believe the concealed hammer models are probably far behind the 642/637 styles in sales figures. They barely make exposed hammer versions in PC flavors. Most are the "hammerless" models. It's too bad, I think they would sell, but they don't even offer the 637s cut for moonclips yet.

No they don't make a 638 PC and it grinds me!! The 638 is not a big seller like the 642. Maybe if they made a 638 PC, this J-hound might buy enough of them to make it a big seller! :)

Heck, even just a no IL version. I wanted a 638/438 but preferred no IL and ended up getting a 442 instead. Was a tough choice between the stainlesss or the black/blues and bodyguard or centennial. If the bodyguard had the No IL would have easily been the bodyguard

I sent my 649-3 in for a complete rework to S&W- trigger job, polish, timing checked, barrel straightened... Got my PC bodyguard

PS: I also installed the smaller big dot sight on the front and the new green laser grips from Crimson Trace.

I'm unfamiliar with Performance Center products. What really useful improvements and/or additions could one use on a snubnose .38? I think the guns are pretty ideal as they come from the box, but maybe I'm overlooking something.

If a shooter will work on improving skills with a standard 638, how could a modified "improved" revolver perform any better? That's a question, asked because I don't know the answer. It's not a criticism.

649-2

I would just love to find a .38 special 649. Don't need or want a .357 version.

I bought my 649-2 brand new on May 25, 1996. After lending it to my sister for home protection many years ago, I finally got it back just recently. :) It won't get lent out again! :D

Keep looking. I decided that I also wanted the .38 version. After that it took about a year of looking around gun stores to find one. I actually came across two. They aren't real common but most people want a plastic bottom feeder.
