Will Lew Horton get the hint?

We can only hope. I would have thought that they would be the first to get S&W to release some no-locks.

Maybe LH can get us an 8-shot model 27 with a 3.5" barrel. Oh yea! Hell make it a stainless 627, as long as the zit is gone, I could care less. Regards 18DAI.

No lock guns ARE CURRENTLY IN PRODUCTION!!

642's, 37's, and now 442's, despite the years of shrill, high pitched, apologetic whining from the Safety Wesson crowd about how IMPOSSIBLE it would be for S&W to do so.

The "lock is here to stay crowd" were evidently WRONG!!

I'm betting that S&W's greed will outweight its corporate arrogance, and we will see more lock free revolvers replacing the wind up ones. Who better than LH to help get S&W's head out of its ass? Regards 18DAI.

Yeah, how about that?

It would take a outfit like lew horton that can order hundreds or thousands of guns to POSSIBLY make a difference. Does S&W have some kind of legal aggrement or something with the goverment that they cant bend? I dont need anymore guns, but if I did, I will never buy a 2 piece barrel or the lock! Besides, for roughly the same money I think with looking you can still find what you want prelock in pristine condition.

What do the current no lock guns have in common? I would love a new no lock model 27 or 25, but I don't think I care to give up the single action to get it. I will keep shopping for a pre lock .45 acp 625, at least it is getting me out to go to gun shows again.

So in other words, you are saying that you do not believe that S&W will produce any da/sa no-lock revolvers, just da only?

That's what current trends would tell me, but you never know. But everything new without a lock has been DAO so far. 40, 37 DAO. 642.....

One won't buy a lock gun. Another won't buy MIM. Still another won't touch two-piece barrels. On and on and on. I don't think S&W is into the micro market. I also don't think they're producing no-lock guns. The current crop is, they say, based on left-over J-frames.

4000 left over J-frames? Yea...um ok.

No lock revolvers are being currently produced. If you miss the lock, just pretend its there.

To paraphrase the Safety Wesson fans, The lock free revolvers are here to stay, get over it!

There are several models that I would buy without a lock even if they were DAO. Heck I rarely shoot SA anyway. In any case, I think the DAO and J frame are being used as a stepping stone.

S&W does not need left over frames to make no-lock guns.

Removing a few lines of code off the frame machining program yields a lock free frame. They can even contour the back of the K frame to the old profile if they leave the lock off.

It is very easy to do with programmable machining centers. Hell, they could load ten frames on a tombstone fixture and make five no locks and five with locks if they so wanted to.

1. No legal agreement. Perhaps some states require locks - of that I am not sure. I believe they added the lock as a way to defend against civil suits where some idiot left the gun available and someone had a negligent discharge.

2. According to the engineers, the two piece barrel arrangement is better in all sorts of ways. Similar to the Dan Wesson barrel, except that it is not designed for user exchange or re-setting of B/C gap by user. Apparently easier to manufacture and I cannot discern any change in accuracy or longevity.

I don't think too many people like the lock. I certainly don't. MIM parts work very well indeed, however, and two-piece barrels are a long overdue improvement for alloy guns. Not all change is bad. Anyway, the question becomes who does LH try to please? Which fringe group or tiny market segment? I own a couple of LH guns, and they were very low (less than 200) production. Maybe that's the answer.

After S&W shot all us stock holders in the foot they need to do something to get the company going in the right direction. Our boy Golden turned out to be brass.
