Will the 15-22 fall under an AWB?

State laws and state constitutions cannot abrogate Federal statutes. That is, if there is a federal law re guns, state law cannot say we're going to ignore it. Pretty much all the Louisiana Constitutional Amendment did was require strict scrutiny by the Louisiana courts of any gun regulations passed by the Louisiana legislature.

The two states that just legalized marijuana, would disagree with you. :D

But it will make for a court battle just as the marijuana laws have in Colorado and other states. States rights vs. Federal rights. Just as with the passport requirement for domestic flights, some states such as louisiana will not abide by the federal tsa requirement going into effect in 2013. There will be state rights vs. Federal govt. cases being heard in the courts which will put a stay on federal mandates until the cases are resolved. That's not a bad thing when our state constitution protects certain rights.

Here's the only thing I can see making a difference. Training, HEAVILY, three or four persons of each school, to carry and use their pistol in their school. Using the school and sim rounds on a weekend each month, make them train atleast every other month in the school while it's empty of course. Making sure they are comfortable with their surroundings, and with clearing rooms, and working together. Texas is already tossing around the idea of arming some of their teachers. r.

And yes, it looks like some yahoo installed the front sight backwards! =)

Did anyone hear about the school killing in China? 26 or 27 killed in a school by way of a knife. Crazy people will kill, that's all there is to it.

The AR proposed ban by this administration reminds me of all the other crazy things this guy pushed and believes in. Anyone wish they would have voted differently? You got what you asked for!

Remember all the fallout there was over the SUV a few years ago? These guys are just reactive nuts. They are as dangerous as these crazy killers.

The 2nd amendment is a RIGHT! It's not there to allow us to own hunting guns, it was written to allow us to defend ourselves from a tyrant. What better weapon than the AR? If our fore fathers had the vision of the future the 2nd amendment might has said we have the right to military type weapons. They were not concerns about guarding ourselves from deer. This stuff it getting out of control. They are so over reactive. I have a 1st grade by the way. Friday was terrible! My God, how could anyone do that!! Let's Ban criminals/murderers. Let's start there!!

It was 22, and they were not killed. But yes, they will find a way. Bath, MI 1927. OKC, OK 1995.

Little by little

The knee jerk reaction to this tragedy is to enact some laws, do something... whatever. The initial yew and cry is emotional and unreasoned. What is being proposed by the MSM and the left will not stop future tragedies and they know it. Why, because when they enact restrictions and they don't work and we are mourning more innocent victims they will say; see we didn't go far enough. I believe that is the agenda and strategy.
I just recently bought a 15-22 and haven't even shot it yet. I have been a sporting clays shooter and punched up to Master and am now looking at other competitions to try. BTW all my modern guns are locked up in the gun cabinet and I have the keys on me and I don't have any mentally incompetents living with me and no children either (all grown and moved out). I do have three flintlocks hanging on the wall (no black powder in the house though.)
Real change would involve:
- Arming a competent person at these "soft targets" the guy didn't shoot up a gun range or a police station. They never do!
That would involve background and mental evaluations and training.
- Mental background checks linked to the NICS check system. This appears to be the link between all these monsters.
- You can flame me for this but gun shows should require the same checks as guns sold in a retail establishment.
- Stop the media from making these guys modern day Jesse James's or Klebold and Harris's. Don't allow their names to be mentioned. "Dirt bag shooter X" should be what they are called. They are looking for attention and noteriety, don't give it to them.

M&P 15-22 Assault Weapon

Yes. If diane feinstein, barbara boxer and michael bloomberg get their way, anything capable of firing more than ten rounds from a clip is an assault weapon, especially if they are black and look military oriented in any way. American gun owners cannot stand by and let this go forward without protest.

How secure is secure?
To me a trigger lock and/or gun safe is proper and prudent safety.
They are both deterrents but a deterrent works.

Ideally I'd like to see all citizens that desire to carry a hand gun and to take gun safety, use and defensive use courses and to maintain the skills learned. Not gonna happen.

I stopped by my local Dick's store today. Sure enough all tactical style weapons were gone...they generally carried only several...but all the other rifles were on display.
I made it a point to see the store manager and tell him "poorly done" and I'd take all future business to other stores...there is a Gander Mtn in the same mall just steps away and a Herb Philipsons just minutes away. He did not have a happy face at my statement.

If the next new gun law doesn't work -- and it won't -- then look for a federal buyback of all firearms, followed inevitably by total confiscation. It's happened in other countries where freedoms were whittled away and it can happen in America. All gun transactions that were recorded by the FBI and state authorities can trace guns back to their owners, with, of course, many exceptions such as private sales. Still, forewarned is forearmed.

A Fine Idea!

Since it is the extremely mentally ill that purpetrate most of these acts, maybe there should be a special tax on mental health care and medication to subsidize arming and training teachers.

This idea is too spot on to be politically correct... It would require individuals take responsibility for their own safety and security.

The issue is not in the mentally incompetent, it's not in guns, and its not gun owners. It is the individual that commits these heinous acts.

Honestly, how many of the individuals that commit these acts actually own the firearms that they use to commit the crimes? By this I mean how many of them own them legally? I'm sure it's very few. So the issue is not that we need to get the guns "off the streets," the issue is not that we need tighter gun control laws. What we need is something to keep the people from committing the acts. The only way that will happen is to arm more people in the right places. Signs that say gun free zone will do nothing, obviously. Making it illegal to have them will do nothing, obviously, because if there is a law that states firearms are not allowed on school grounds, criminals won't pay them any attention. Why? THEY ARE CRIMINALS!!! If they would obey a no weapons area sign, they they would obey the law that says it is illegal to murder.

The only deterrent that could ever possibly work is to arm personnel. Change the no guns allowed sign to hey idiot, your not going to get very far before you get plugged by the teachers signs. That will deter the twisted ones. The only effective way to stop violence is with tough people ready to be violent to save the innocent. That is why there is an army, an air force, the marines, and navy. Let's not forget the coast guard... They are a moving sign saying don't tuck with our shot or we will leave your butt at the bottom of the ocean.

This is what we need, a sign that says armed personnel on premises waiting for you to do something stupid. Some say an eye for an eye makes the world blind, but this is an eye for a hundred innocent eyes able to see with confidence.

The right to bear arms means the right to carry a tool for the protection of yourself, your property, your neighborhood, your community, state and nation. To protect those who cannot protect themselves. It is our DUTY as human beings to protect those who are weak. And you cannot effectively protect from a person with a state of the art firearm with a six pea shooter. You can, but your level of confidence is likely to be hindered. And you are not as effective with an arm that is weak compared to the arm that is presented against you.

We have hunderds if not thousands of properly trained and capable Veterans returning from the middle-east every day, all of whom are looking for work. If the government, (such as it is) has any real desire to scale up security and at the same time deal with a portion of the unemployment problem, i think there may be an obvious solution...

A useless tool...

The useless tool is bloomberg... looks like he has no idea what he's attempting to hold... Notice the front site is on backwards mike? Are we really going to stand silent and let these idiots dictate our Rights?
