I love those things too, but do think it's increasing amounts for smaller improvements. Different people are different.

past a certain price point, you pay increasing amounts for smaller improvements. That's considered a given among 1911 aficionados.

Your first quote above makes the point I was trying to make in regards to your second quote below.

What you may consider a "smaller improvement" another may consider monumental attention to detail.

To some a Norinco or RIA would be equally as appealing as say a Wilson X-Tac. To others it would not. Hence your adage "different people are different"

I'll add with some Wilsons in excess of 7k and certain full house guns in the 10k range, price point vs return is often relevant discussion.

I've been tempted by expensive 1911s but am very afraid that I would be disappointed with them. Not with accuracy, detail nor fit and finish but with my feelings of value to price point.
 
This thread sure would look good with some photos... :rolleyes:

When it comes time to sell off my guns, for whatever reason, this is going to be the last one out the door.
