... and it's a take down model. I suspect it would bring somewhere around $1000, maybe a bit more. If it was a .44-40, you could triple that.

The wood doesn't look sanded and I assume it has no extra holes.

My friend says it was refinshed . Not original finish. That hurts the value a lot. he thinks its worthless because its not original.

I love that gun and would like to have it! However with the shotout barrel it isnt worth $1,000s! But it isnt junk either! If I owned it, I would have bore rechambered to .357 mag. I have had it done twice years ago, once to a winchester 92, and the other time to a winchester 73. Both guns were also shot out.
It does cost a LOT of money to convert them these days. I had mine done way back in the early 70s.
There is no way after the expense of conversion, and paying the $1,000s suggested, that the end result would be sellable to cover the expense by far.
However, were the gun mine, I would do it for my own satisfaction, knowing I wouldnt recoup my money.
If your friend wants to sell that gun somewhat reasonable, E-mail me. Thank you.

The best thing to do would be to have it relined by someone like Clearwater Reboring or etc. back in .32WCF and have it professionally brought back to a reasonable condition- the catches being if you could either get if for a song enough to make the rest of the investment worth wild, or if you just want a model 53 to fill a hole in your collection, or just have a hanker'n for one.

Since I cannot answer either of those questions and both are dependent upon your outlook and disposable income, I will give the advice that I doubt seriously that you would ever turn a profit or break even on it financially.

But if you like it, who am I to say...I've bought several that I know I will loose money on, but wanted and enjoy. :)

Thank You. I am a bit lost about breaking even. At what price?

Sometimes a bore can look very bad, but still be capable of giving decent accuracy with the right load.

Something to keep in mind ;)

I cleanned it. i can see the groves. Not sharp, but all there.

Fighter, I can't say for sure about the bore in this rifle , but I have had many fitting that description, still capable of acceptable accuracy.
