Winter has finally arrived, in part, in Central Ohio.
The temperature is mild, at 40deg F.

It's been snowing steady for more than 4 hrs., and with the ground temperature at 40deg, f. there is still more than 1"of snow built up on the ground.

The caretakers of our county roads, and our local weather guessers, were caught with their pants down on this unsuspected snow fall.

Even-so, we won't see the true sign of Winter, until overtime status is reached, and the trucks are loaded with snow melting medium. Then, we'll see our mail boxes being plowed off, and the roads being covered with at least a I" covering of snow melting medium.

The snow plows will then run day and night, for a while, snow or not.

Remember to do all the stretches before picking up that snow shovel ;), and
Ibuprofen after the job is done !

Since tomorrow (15 Nov) is opening day deer firearm season in Michigan, I figured I'd better head out behind my house and put my rifle supports on the two ladder stands I have back there. We got about an inch of wet snow overnight and snowed most of this morning. Jump on my 4-wheeler, drive over the bridge across the drainage ditch, and run into a total impasse from a 40' pine tree that blew over within the past few days! No way around it so I had to ride back to my house (300 yards away) and break out the Stihl MS201c. Spent the next 2.5 hours cutting up the pine tree and getting soaked from snow falling from the bows on my head and down my back, and getting poked in the eyes from branches. Not exactly what I was planning for today.

Mid 60's and sunny here, weather guessers say may get to low 40's tonight, thats cold enough for me. Last time in Chicago in winter it was -60 with wind chill , no way could stand that now, not even around 32.

Cold front came through. It is 73 here right now. About 200 miles south of Greyman50.

Yep,west central OH and we got snow covering the roofs, grass and vehicles that were parked outside. I know it's the middle of November but I'm not ready for this stuff. Think I might just close the blinds, go back to bed and start over tomorrow. It is Ohio, so it could be in the high 50's or low 60's tomorrow. At least I don't have to deal with Ohio's idiot drivers anymore.

Bought a used John Deere 1025R in July. Came with front end loader, 3 point hitch, roto-tiller, brush hog, finishing mower, and another attachment which I think is for leveling the soil. Also has the mower deck.
I intend to use the loader to shovel the drive when we get heavy snows.
Have a snow blower, but with my handicap, it would be difficult for me to use it.

...winter??? finally......

....glad its here, beautiful snowfall, no need to shovel or plow the drive we are RETIRED!!! worked hard all summer mowing lawn, clearing trails around the property watch the wild life, have it all including the occasional black bear pass by and through....and yes we have the 4 seasons and more importantly was have ALL the fresh water we would ever need...........Bill careful with that "power equipment" all I used mine for was a deisel powered wheel barrow!!! ha ha...sold it and paid off the car,,,and so it goes in NE Ohio;)

dant,

Would love to have your lake effect snows here on my side of the state. We get some -more would be better. Beautify the barren landscape, insulate the winter wheat crop, coat the trees in blazing white, quiet things to a whisper -nothing like a real, northern winter to lift my soul.

Regards,
Andy

Dant: Where are you located that you see black bears? I thought it was possible to see them if one lived near PA, but NE Ohio?
Am careful with the tractor. We have 2.5 acres in Homerville, and it comes in handy. Have a brush hog, finishing mower, roto-tiller, a under mount mower, and a rake, which I think is for leveling the ground. All the equipment came with the tractor along with the 3 point hitch.

I have a friend that lives in Meadville, Pa. His house is one house out of the city limits. He has 14 acres with about 11 being woods. Has a bear by the house about once a month or so looking for food. He feeds the squirrels, chipmunks wild turkeys, and birds so there are feeders and suet for the bear to steal. He use to feed the deer ear corn until the PA.Wildlife folks said that was not a good thing to do, he used up two tons of ear corn a year before that. Called him one day a while back and he said he had been looking for his feeders in the woods because the bear had taken them. I ask him if he took a gun in case he ran into the bear. He said yes, he had his .32 ACP pocket pistol. Told him he was nuts and recommended he carry something larger on the next trip into the woods..........

Sunday after church we were driving south on Route 3 between Sunbury and Westerville, Ohio. The inch size snow flakes and the green pine trees along with the Fall colors on the hardwoods, made it feel like we were in a giant snow globe! We went in a nice Italian restaurant, sat by their fireplace and ate Stromboli until I was stuffed, then finished up with Tiramisu! Life is grand!
