Came back from the local gunshop with 500 Wolf primers, the only brand they had in large pistol size. Does anyone have experience with Wolf primers; good or bad? I intend to use them in light cast bullet loads in the 45 ACP.

I have been using the Small pistol and find them to be just fine. No problems at all. I bought a case. I notice no difference between them and CCI or Winchester. Just a guess but I think probably as "hard" as CCI as far is inserting the primer.
They go bang
I bought 3,000 small and 3,000 large pistol recently and have been loading the large into 45 ACP. I've had no trouble loading them. They seem as consistent in size and shape as any other primers I've used. I've fired about 350 of them. All went bang in any of the three 1911s I have. I didn't do any bench-rested shooting but I have no reason to think that they made for any less accurate a round then other primers. So use them in good health and with confidence.

My competition guns(revolvers) that are tuned for Federal primers had over 50% failure rate with Wolf primers. I have since retuned two of my guns for Wolf and they work fine now. In my testing of primer sensitivity I have found that in order of lightest to heavest have been,

Winchester
Remington
CCI
Wolf
Of course this test is only valid in my guns results may differ in your equipment.

If you need primers, you buy what you can find and make do with what you get. You hit them hard enough they go bang. A weapon set to factory specs should do that just fine.

I have some SR, LRM, SP Wolf primers and have had no problems with them at all.

I like them. A nice feature is that when the primer package is placed on a primer tray, the primers are ready to be picked up. No shaking and inverting the primer tray.
Not a big thing, but it is a nice touch.

FWLIW, a VERY active shooter acquaintance of mine has been using Wolf out of necessity. He didn't start out buying them because they were cheaper; Wolf was all he could find.
He has had NO problems, has NO complaints and several of his club members are considering getting Wolf primers also.
Which is NOT to say I'll put Wolf AMMO in my guns, unless it's the German .22 target stuff.

I guess I'm the only one to have a problem with Wolf primers. I thought some thing was wrong with my Lee auto primer because the Wolf primers seemed harder to insert. I bought a RCBS auto primer and they were still harder to insert than Winchester, Remington or CCI. They worked, but for me, they did require more effort to seat.

I have used over 15,000 Wolf shotshell primers with no problems. Some people turn their nose up at them but they work great and are priced right.

I am on my 3rd sleeve of Wolf SP primers and haven't had any FTF's yet. Agree with running iron though -- Wolf primers are slightly thicker than WSP's or Remingtons and they require more force to seet; it just hasn't been a problem for me.

Why not? I've shot a lot of Wolf ammo with out trouble.
Especially if they were priced at $10/K less than domestic primers like they used to be. I'm paying the same for Wolf as for Federal or Winchester.

In a nut shell, I found the Wolf to be just as reliable with slightly higher velocities and slightly lower extreme spreads and standard deviations. However, none of my revolvers have lightened springs.

I picked up 20,000 Wolf small pistol primers early last year when they were still cheap. I use them to load my 38 special and 9mm loads. I've loaded and shot couple thousand 38 special loads and I've had problems with only one revolver. My 45 year old Colt Agent occasionally (one out of ten rounds) has difficulty poping them but this same revolver never has any problem with Federal or Winchester primers. All my other revolvers have no problem.

I've fired almost 3k of the Wolf SP primers in about half a dozen different pistols. No issues period yet.
