Wolf Small pistol primers, work for me.

Just a FYI.

I have always used Winchester or CCI primers. I almost ran out of Small pistol primers so when Wideners had the Wolf in stock, I ordered 5k.

I loaded 200 rds each of 9mm and 38 special. I did not notice any difference when priming the brass or when shooting. They all went bang.

Other more experienced members have reported using them and not having any problems so I thought I would just add my 2 cents. So if you see them for sale and need primers, I would go for it.

My competition guns that are tuned for Federal primers have over a 50% failure rate with wolf primers, they also have a high failure rate with CCI and Winchester.

Of course if you see them for sale some where but feel that you'd rather wait for some CCI's to become available just PM me with the info, I'm always glad to use Wolf primers.

I bought 10,000 back when they were $87/5K and another 10,000 recently for $129/5K. I've fired over 4000 so far in a very wide variety of guns (1877 Baby Russian, 1899 M&P, 1950 Terrier, CZ85B, 342PD and more) with zero failures to fire or malfunctions.

If the price is right, I'll buy more.

Triggers are too light then!

My competition guns that are tuned for Federal promers have over a 50% failure rate with wolf primers, they also have a high failure rate with CCI and Winchester.

I have used them in firearms that have had tuned triggers too. Failure rate was about 10% (I hate triggers that are that light, smooth yes, light no.) In my revolvers I put a spent primer under the strain screw so I could use Wolf primers in it. You just have to learn what "squeeze" means when your trigger is a little stiffer!

I Like Them.

So far I have used their large pistol primers in 44spec,44mag,45colt and 45acp. Previously I had used winchesters, I can not see any difference in group size at all.
Still have to try them in 38 and 357 but I expect the same results.

I'll use anything that works. These days need to jump on whatever is avaliable at a good price.

I bought some Wolff standard large rifle primers to use in 7mm08 lower velocity loads for turkeys and short range (200 yards or less) target shooting. Found I got about 200 fps less velocity (1900 vs 1700 fps) but same nice groups as with Remington std primers. Increased amount of IMR 4895 I use and got POI where I wanted it -- no chrono data yet on "final" load.

Will buy more if cannot get primers I have been using.

I just loaded the last of my Federals this week to try out my new 586...........so, I will be starting on the Wolf's next week. I doubt that I will have any issues, but if I do I will pass it along.

Federals and Wolf standard primers.................

are really quite similar. I have had very little difference in ballistics with either one of these primer manufacturers.

One thing to watch out for though, and this is experience speaking, when going from Winchester to Wolf you have to watch your velocity. The Winchester are rated for magnum loads in large pistol while the Wolf are not. Switching to Wolf Magnum primers will give you back that velocity, in my experience anyway!
