Would you buy a revolver not made by Smith and Wesson?

Besides Ruger I mean. Like Charter Arms, Rossi or Taurus?
I want a new revolver so bad I can hardly stand it but after my experiance with one of the above, I just cannot make myself buy one. I have 3 Ruger revolvers and one model 36. I need more wheel guns but I just can't spend $1000 for a model 27 (my dream gun).

I`m not all that picky. If it`s decent quality and goes bang when it is supposed to, I`ve no problem with any revolver.
My favorites by far are Smiths and Colts, but I own many other brands. Several Rugers and Taurus, a Dan Wesson, a Rossi, Uberti & Pietta reproductions, even an old Astra 960 and an old Enfield break top.
But you get what you pay for. Taurus makes some pretty decent revolvers for reasonable prices, but keep in mind that the fit/finish and overall quality will be a notch or two below a good S&W.
All depends on what you want. Even an old beater truck gun like my Astra 960 will serve, but a Colt or Smith will do it better and with style.

I have tended to stay away from some brands like H&R, Iver Johnson, Charter Arms, ect.

You should be able to find very nice M-27s for 1/2 of that $1k...
OTOH - If ONLY NEW will do - - - Well, Why? One of the nice things about quality firearms is that with just slight preventive maintenance (like cleaning and oiling) they will last for a long, long time.

I've got several Colts probably one Colt for every eight or nine S&W's.

Ruger double actions have NEVER appealed to me. Simply do not care for their balance , feel of the action and especially the aesthetics.

I have no issues buying Colts.

Smith and Wesson...followed at a distant second by Ruger, and finally Colt IMO....every other revolver, and I own a Charter Arms or two, are also rans in my book.....

When I was a guard at lockheed I always pretty much had my choice every day between colt offical police, S&W 586 and ruger speed six`s all in 4" barrels. I mostly always drew a colt offical police due to the less bulk and weight. The 586s had the large stocks and needless extra weight of the full length ejector houseing. The speed six`s we had, had the rounded smooth grips and butt that felt better in the hand that was also a little overbuilt like the 586s. I do like the push in button clyinder release better than colts pull or s&w`s push. Makes better sense to me from every standpoint than colt or smith. Since we carried .38 special ammo, I was fine with carrying the colt.
I stopped at the gate the other day to see whats going on as I had retired 11 years ago, was back in town and noticed the guard was carrying the ruger. He said the captains are now carrying .45 autos.

I don't currently have any Colt revolvers. Other people ended up wanting them more than I did. I would own one again.

I have a Cooper DA revolver made just after the Civil War. It seems a solid little construction.

I'd take a chance on one of the higher end Iver Johnsons too, particularly their prewar target guns.

Manuhrin makes solid guns by most accounts, as does Miroku. Neither are currently imported into the United States.

A vareity of old European military revolvers can be had that will work - Webleys, Enfields, French Ord, Nagants, etc

There's boutique made or at least marked SA revolvers to be had of good quality too. Some are made for Cowboy shooting, others for handgun hunting.

Older Charter Arms are generally nice guns. I have not owned a current production model. The armorer/student gunsmith that did a lot of work for me purchased a purple frame one for his wife. He seems to think it is well made enough.

Sure I would... and do. Why not? Right now I'm carrying a Charter Arms Undercover 38. I have no qualms about carrying it whatsoever.

I've owned or presently own, Ruger, Taurus, Colt, Dan Wesson, Harrington & Richardson, Nagant, and probably some other stuff I can't recall off the top of my head. Those are just the D/A's now. S/A's throw in a few more brands.

I'd buy a Colt for sure. Taurus? They make some interesting revolvers, but I'd have to pass. I'll save up a few more weeks and get a good vintage S&W or Ruger.

Rossi? Never. Same goes for Charter. Nothing affirms the old adage you "get what you pay for" like Charter Arms.

I have owned Rugers and one Colt Python with a 3" barrel but, I am still not able to talk about why I sold the Python or the original M1A1 Carbine yet. There simply not enough George Dickel to forget those transgressions.

Sure. I own an Astra 3" .44 mag and I'm quite fond of it.

I just haven't found a good holster for it yet.

I bought one, a Ruger Alaskan .44. Only because I couldn't find a S&W 629 with 3" barrel at a good price. The Ruger is a nice gun and shoots well but I prefer the Smiths. I'll find one someday and sell the Alaskan maybe.
