Several of the Walmarts in my area now have waiting lines for ammo and rifles, as early as 5:00am. They are all 24 hour stores in my area. Most of the stores start selling the ammo at 7:00am. The rifles arrive by FedEx and UPS around 10:00am. We all know Walmart is not gouging on their prices. Their prices are still the low Walmart prices as usual.

In my area prices are:

Win 22 LR 555 count $23
Federal 9mm $14 for 50, 100 count $20, WWB $24 for 100
Federal 40S&W $18 for 50, 100 count $29
Federal 45acp $20 for 50, 100 count $32

Tula .223, 20 count $5
Federal Ammo Box 420 count .223 $175

So you can see their prices are very low compared to many others, especially the auction sites. I have been lucky enough to get some of all these calibers in the last 6 weeks, mostly in the smaller sizes

Now the problem is you could wait and not get anything. There are many days they get no ammunition deliveries. Some days they get just a few boxes in. The Department Managers have no idea as to what or when anything is coming in. They have a constant order standing but never know what's coming. I missed getting the large ammo box of 440 count 223 by being the third person, and two boxes came in.

Yes I have waited one or two days per week. That is an advantage of being retired, but most people waiting are under 40 years of age, not retired. I have another reason to wait, as I got two AR's at Walmart prices. A Colt LE6920 for $1099 and a Bushmaster for $947. The AR's come in even less frequently than the ammunition, just a few a week. And no I am not selling the AR's.

Academy Sporting Goods has started limiting to one box of ammo per caliber - maximum three a day. No more "sweeping" the shelves and reselling on gunbrokers or armslist. Now more people are "scoring" a little ammo after waiting in line for a while.

My biggest day was Friday when I was about 25th in line. Everyone was orderly, but some guys slowed the line by getting on the phone to their buddies to see what THEY needed...

Anyway, I got 325 round box of Federal 22LR for $15.99; a 20 round box of Independence 5.56 for $9.99; and a 50 round box of 40 S&W American Eagle for $18.99. It was worth the wait.

I have had hits and misses at WM. Might also try Dicks Sporting Goods and I learned today that Meijier sells ammo in Northern KY. Good luck. I have also seen some ammo on different websites. Looks like things are maybe getting back under control.

I live about 10 minutes from a local Cabelas. A salesperson told me that when they open their doors at 9am, there is always a mob of people, sometimes numbering about 200, camped out and waiting to get in to strip the shelves. This Cabelas limits folks to 10 boxes of ammo per caliber...maybe they need to reconsider that limit to allow more folks the opportunity. I just take my chances...I have better things to do with my time than to camp out in a parking lot.

I have stocked ammo, powder, primers, bullets, brass, and casting equipment.

Really no need to Hawk the stores for more. So I mostly just watch the buying frenzy. And wonder if everyone is shooting that much.

Some businesses give out the dates that they expect orders arriving. Seems there should be a lot of ammo arriving in March and April.

Do your best to not feed the Sharks, remember what businesses did no price gouging, take your business there when you possibly can.

No I would not wait in line, at this time anyway.

Just watch the crowd, and relax.

Store up for the next rain day.

Guns and ammo is just another form of currency.

picked up 1400rds. of 9mm last week from WM ...run a route on my job & check at WM in 8 different towns...guns are not going to be the problem the ammo is the key..

I feel like ammo has went up a buck or two at Walmart. I think I paid $18.49-18.99 on my most recent boxes of .40 S&W (Federal 180gr FMJ, 50 count). I feel like I was paying $16.99-17.49 for that ammo back in November/December.

Either way I can't complain. I called around for a couple weeks then found some in stock and picked up a few boxes. I'm sitting on enough ammo to last me 6-12 mos so I'm content for right now. If I see ammo during my grocery trips I'll buy more but I'm not going out of my way anymore.

Just really glad I didn't buy a 9mm ;)

Having seen gas and commodity shortages in the 1970s under Jimmy Carter, gun and ammo shortages under Bill Clinton in 1992 and 1994, and gun and ammo shortages in 2008 under Obama, I was ready with my stash in 2012/2013. I am not surprised that it is occurring. I am surprised at the severity and length of the panic buying. I only buy ammo if it is what I normally shoot and it is available for a pre-panic price when I drop by the big box store or LGS for other things.

I have sold several spare guns since the panic started. I got completely out of guns in 9mm and 5.7X28mm so I sold all of my ammo in those calibers. I have sold more ammo since the first Tuesday in November, 2012 than I have bought.

Ours are the same up here for prices. We're just not getting as "much" for stock (if any),being it is still going to the larger stores. The managers do know what's coming in. It's all on that hand held "thing" they carry around for "auto ordering and price checking". Being a smaller area and knowing about everyone one... I ask what's coming in and they can tell me by looking at their "Thing" and exactly how many. It's a catch as catch can once it's here and a 3 box limit period. Not 3 of these and 3 of those. It's 3 boxes total period per day.

Not enough people hardly to stand in line :D here, but the "goodies" are gone by 9:A same day.

Since 2009 there have been over 55 MILLION new people getting background checks for buying weapons. How many of those have bought more than one weapon ? I'm guessing most have bought two. I'll also bet they bought more than a couple boxes of "practice" ammo too. That says quite a bit right there about the ammo shortage by itself.

Since Dicks quit selling Modern Sporting Rifles, pulled everything related weapon wise and isn't re-stocking item for those weapons. I NO LONGER spend my hard earned money there.

They don't support my 2nd Ammendment rights to own Modern Sporting Rifles or anything "tactical" of my choice,I don't support them.

Got plenty of target ammo. Trying to build up PD ammo seems to be a little hard to find JHPs are scarce.

heard today that obummer picked the VP [female] of Wal-Mart to be on his staff so there goes that ammo supply !

Be patient ,the supply will eventually catch up with demand.we've seen this before.Kinda reminds me of snow in Denver, every winter half the people here have to relearn how to drive!

I have to wonder how many gun enthusiasts voted for the reelection of the present President & the rest of his anti-gun cronies. Are you happy yet?

I got caught short in 2009, and between now and then, reloaded 90% of my brass and have enough primers to reload everything at least one time. That said, I was caught completely flat footed on 22LR.
I will not get up at 0 Dark 30 and drive 50 miles to wait in line. I am going to just wait it out.

I would hope that those who have time to wait in lines would be more courteous to those of us who do not... if you have several thousand rnds of ammo per weapon.. plz knock it off.. those of us who work (and go to school at night) can't wait in lines or find ammo (in what little time we have) to take our kids to the range or complete our CCW range time and classes. My range just ran out of 9. Now my kids and I are SOL because of hoarding and I'm not about to pay extortion prices to the few remaining online sources.. (You can be frugal at the range. I've had to be... making every shot count is a valuable asset in the real world and in the event of any unlikely civil unrest)

price increases in ammo and reloading supplies are always right after the first of the year, usually announced at or just after the shot show. these are normal reflecting cost of production. usually in single digits unless the raw materials have taken a big jump in the market, then the increase relfects that.
