Would you want this for your shield?

Aside from the reasons already mentioned, It does not work aesthetically. The light hangs way too low and looks like a cheap Tapco add on. Neat idea though. I think if I were to entertain the thought of adding anything to a shield it would have to be a blended unit that attaches to the front of the trigger guard and dust cover, giving the appearance that it is part of the weapon. I believe Veridian (sp) makes something like that, but I could be wrong.

Im worried that S&W is going to send you a letter to stop using their logo on your advertising.......

Nope... not really looking to mall ninja my self defense carry weapon with something I will never use. Now I have a .40 compact in the nightstand with night sights and a light mounted on it.

Different scenario, different weapon.

Hey all, thanks for the feedback. ~1000 views and 22 detailed replies in ~48 hours is an awesome amount of free exposure in the product design world :) I'll pursue this concept just for myself at this time, I've since come up with 2 more accessory concepts, I'll mock them up in the same format and see if they gain better interest in the coming days.

If you haven't already don't forget to consider the recoil forces on the two screws and how that will affect the area of the frame where the holes are.

Thanks for the tip, someone else mentioned that on another forum though not nearly as nicely as you phrased it :) In my mind I can't envision how the plastics would be stressed up there during recoil, the vertical walls in that area are only .060" thick! Surely they would crack upon the first shot if recoil made its way to the front?

Adding weight to my carry weapon. Yeah isnt that what we all want to do.

If im going to add weight. I'll just carry my 1911 around with me most of the time.

While I don't know about the Shield, I have seen slow motion film of polymer framed pistols flexing during recoil. I really don't know how that area is affected but I believe that Glock 22 with rail mounted lights experienced reliability issues so -something attached- in that area on the frame will affect the recoil cycle to an extent.

How about a grip plug!

I have no interest in the rail, but it appears you have the knowledge and equipment to come up with a plug for that annoying hole in the bottom of the grip.I contacted Pearce about one like they make for Glocks, but got no response.I will definitely buy one if you or someone make one.

Recoil affects the whole gun. So, putting a mass on the front like that will add tremendous stress to the front of the frame; an area not designed to take any of it.

Will it work? Maybe.

To answer your original question, no. I would not want that for a Shield.
