X Frame in .350 Legend

While I agree that carrying a X frame especial one with 8 or more inch barrel isn't saving much over a rifle. I have a Mohawk 600 in 350 Rem mag which weights 5.5 empty and is only 39" overall, add a pound plus for wearing a 3x9X Redfield wide view and it sure isn't much harder to carry than a 71 oz (4.6#)X frame. But a scope on an X frame and add a lb to it and a bunch of bulk. I have a 8 3/8" 500. It was way bulky with a 2X Leopold. Went to regular sights.

But, exactly how handy they are isn't the point. What you chose to carry and for what is a personal choice. Unless I had a moose permit I probably would' take that 350 mag or my X frame hunting. Maybe if I was going fishing where there were LOTS of big bears. `But, that is me. Not you. It is great that we have lots of choices.

While the 350 Legend ain't tripping my trigger I can see where some stated restrictions can make it a nice option. It actually should be real effective to. Plus, it should be a lot of fun.

Look at rifles do we "need" all the 17s. 204, 22, 243, 6.5 270. .284. 7mm. 300. 338 350 416 458, 500s LOL

Got to love all the choices no mater how silly some of it is and how ridiculously small the differences.

I'm with jag1954. I like more choices, too, and like that S & W is making new revolvers. Neighbor tells me this is a great deer cartridge in an AR, especially for the recoil shy. Rifle and handguns chambered for same cartridges always interest me. Sounds like I'm in line for one.

Cause this is 'merica!

I've emailed Ruger about making a 350 Legend Mini-14. Kind of a throwback to the Win 1907 .351. Would make an amazing 'house gun' for four and two legged critters in the country. Never heard back. Maybe because I also bugged them to make one in .450BM.

I'm sure this revolver has a market, but it's not for me. Well, until Ruger makes that rifle at least...

350 Legend vs 357 Maximum

In terms of real world ballistics, given use in a revolver (and inherent limitations & characteristics), there's not much to choose from between the 350 Legend and the 357 Maximum. Or, perhaps I'll qualify that by saying: if you're a handloader.
If you're a cast bullet shooter, all the more so.
The 357 Maximum offers a lot of advantages being a rimmed cartridge.
Once you start loading 35 cal. cast rifle bullets with a wide meplat for hunting use, the ability to properly crimp without worrying about either headspacing or bullet set-back due to recoil, makes the advantages of the rimmed Maximum case obvious.

But, as a marketing gimmick, and/or as a pairing for those who own a rifle in 350 Legend and/or only shoot factory ammo, by all means, enjoy!

Funny to observe that, right off the bat, folks are wondering what other cartridges they can rechamber it for.
Might I suggest a wildcat .358-444 Marlin?!

Specs are:
double action only.
I saw that listed on the spec list on the website also.

Bet ya a dollar that someone fat fingered something, no way this is a DAO X-frame.

I have no real interest in the .350 Legend but I think this new model is a great thing and I hope it means they will expand the huge X-frame to other calibers. I think it would be tons of fun in .327 Federal Magnum.

I will say that the .350 Legend is perplexing in a 7-shot. The X-frame cylinder is GIGUNDO in size and S&W has successfully made an 8-shot N-frame .357 Magnum so one less round of .350 Legend in a larger cylinder seems odd to me.

Anyway, I think this is a neat intro, hope it gains steam.

Nice to see a normal muzzle on an X Frame. :D

Marketing folks are probably millennials.

With all that meat around the cylinder, they might have been able to make it a 9 shot.

Rosewood

I think I just found my new EDC!

I'm kidding around of course.

This new chambering gives handgun hunters are new choice.

350 Legend is gaining some traction so ammo should be available.

It is straight walled which is important in some locations.

I look forward to hearing about how the revolver/cartridge performs.

Hmmm, how many times have you been reading thru the SCoSW and seen where they made a certain model that flopped and wished that you'd have bought one....My wheels are turning.

Nobody wanted any of those early K32s
The 16-4 32 H&R mags were slow movers
the same with the alloy J frame 32s

Go buy any of them know, Used ones are at least double what a 38 or 357 sell for.
