Again, inspired by a post in another thread, I give you the I am the way I am because of what I eat and don't eat. Post your dietary choice, and why you make that choice.

Bon apetit comrades. :D

Haha what fun. :)

I gave up meat 2 1/2 years ago. Gave it up cold turkey. My wife (then girlfriend) is vegan, so when we were together I didn't eat much meat anyway. When my brother who is 4 1/2 years older than me (thin and a runner) found out his cholesterol was high, it got me thinking.

My family has a history of heart disease on my mother's side, so I figured I'd go for some blood work. At that time I was 25 and active. Running, lifting, krav maga, hiking, kayaking. The blood work came back good but I figured I'd give up meat, cut back on dairy and see how things go. No fish either, but I was never a fish person. I continued working out as usual.

Since then my body fat % has dropped to 8%, my resting heart rate is in the mid to low 40s, BP is perfect and my bad cholesterol went from just over 100 down to 60.

Most importantly, I feel great. I have more energy and don't catch as many colds.

On top of no meat, I go for organic and non GMO as much as possible. We grow some produce, and her parents grow a LOT. This is great because we know its organic and non GMO.

As I mentioned, my wife is vegan so she doesn't eat any animal products at all. I'd guess at LEAST half the time I'm eating vegan as well, but I do still eat eggs and dairy from time to time. My eggs come from my own chickens, so I know what I'm getting.

Now I'm not one of those "holier than thou" sorts who look down at meat eaters, call them cruel, and try to get them to change their ways. I don't care what others eat!

I just seen a nutritionist and i wasn't eating enough at my meals. Now i'm eating more at meals and its all healthy foods. Meat and fresh veggies. I'm losing 6lbs per two to three weeks now. I admit I should of never let my self get this big, but i never been small size wise. I need to lose 150lbs thats my goal. I lost 30lbs already. Its also the portion size too. My two plates of home made pasta is cut down by 75% now. Mix that with fresh shrimp and tomato sauce, some hot pepper and a tad of grated cheese thats my supper. Plus some fresh veggies too and i'm full till breakfast the next morning. I kind of like eating right I feel better with more energy. I can't wait till spring when the garden produces fresh lettuce and veggies by mid summer.

BTW; I didn't go to mcdonalds all the time but when i did the grease would line the back of my throat. I nuke my burgers now but its just 1 every week and a half.

Paleo ... I've lost 80 lbs. on it. Went from 260 to 180. Started it as a "diet" at first 3 years ago now it's just what I eat on a daily basis.

Sort of "lost" the taste for storebought red meat.Still enjoy a good steak every now and then......it just dosen't taste as well as it used to?

Wild red meat is still good.Along with veggies out of our garden......which is funny. The garden attracts the Deer, which attracts lead, which attracts us,and it's all good.

Wifey can't cook......not "won't".....CAN'T.I raised four boys, and wife with kitchen skills honed in the gaming fields. We've been entirely blessed, and eat very well.Got to the point of studying historic,"Colonial" cooking methods.Snagging reprints of old family "receipt" books. They can be found at most of the more famous Historic Nat. Parks, and other resto'd house/building endeavors. The Lee family book is one that we use right often.Still using my G-mother's cast iron skillets from the 19th century.....so much, that won't use anything but C.I.

We've found that when you take a C.I. skillet out camping for a few days/weeks......that,using it over an open fire it picks up the smoke. Then when you use it later(yes,we clean them, haha)in the house,it releases those smells.ESPECIALLY nice we combined with Bacon.Folks are all up into aroma therapy....we beat that horse here, repeatedly, and often. When the boys or G-baby's come over,I take Cinnamon and a little Allspice and sprinkle it in a C.I. skillet(med heat)......draws'm in like Bears to honey. For the longest time they couldn't figure it out, haha.

Combine above with just a hint of woodsmoke from fireplace and it's like stepping back into a time warp. When the kids were little,I'd take skillets of cooking Bacon and hold them up to the return air on HVAC in the early mornings. It would fill the whole house(1810 Federal period)with the smell......they'd all come runnin in their P.J.s looking for handouts.Cheers.

I selected "omnivore" since it is the most accurate of the choices...but I won't eat it all. I will not eat sushi, for example...that is a matter of choice/taste, though...if I was starving on a desert island, I'd chow down on raw fish and be glad to get it, I'm sure. I don't care for lamb and most game meats...I do like deer sausage, though...again, as a matter of taste, not any particular conscience objection.

I used to eat a lot of junk food, red meat, and drink a lot of sodas...now, my wife and I both eat Nutrisystem foods, supplemented with vegetables and fruit (as specified in the plan.) I haven't had a soda in over two years, and I don't miss them...I drink coffee, iced tea, and water, only. No beer or mixed drinks, either...maybe an occasional glass of wine, but even that rarely.

We enjoy both the taste and convenience of the Nutrisystem meals (I don't sell them nor am I affiliated in any way)...and we are losing weight. We occasionally treat ourselves to a "good" meal but mostly we eat according to the meal plan.

I'm an omnivore. Over the past year we've cut our red meat consumption to once a week for health reasons. Lots more chicken and fish on the menu these days. Like GKC, the closest I get to sushi is tuna fish from a can. Being from Pa., I still eat scrapple from time to time. It's a heart attack on a plate but tastes oh so good.

Baluts!:D

I have a pretty well rounded diet. At 61 I am in good physical shape. Hope to keep that way for a long time.

Heck yeah I eat it all. I just try to do so in moderation. Some might question how that "moderation thing" is workin' out for me though!

Omnivore pretty much says it for me. I did balk about halfway through a cow's eyeball, and probably would not try another. Not too sure I could keep up with Andrew Zimmern, but I like to watch him set the bar.

Sushi could be an expensive addiction, if I had the dough. I like oysters, but tend to stay away, as they frequently come back up; other shellfish, no problem.

At home, though, we usually eat fish, chicken and pork, beef not so often. Shelly has eight brothers who hunt and fish, so we get a lot of game and fresh walleye. Sometimes, we won't have any meat at a meal. Roasted vegetables can be pretty appetizing.

For the last year, I have been grain free which includes eliminating all wheat based products, starch based products (so-called gluten free items) and sugar. Some call it a "paleo" approach - eat only one ingredient foods - meat, vegetables, fruit etc. Lost about 50 lb - would like to drop 10-15 more. Best part is how great you feel - at 65, I feel about 10 years younger!

Wheat in particular is an appetite stimulant for a lot of folks - me included although I didn't realize it until I cut it out of my diet. Without wheat, I seldom get hungry and often have to remind myself to eat something - it's pretty amazing. The first couple weeks without wheat (bread, pasta etc) is the hardest part - weaning yourself off of it is almost like giving up nicotine IMO.

I lost about 40 pounds about 13 years ago by just cutting out fat. If you go to the grocery store they have low or no fat versions of almost everything, and most of it is pretty good. I also started exercising, which had a big effect. Still play racquetball at least three times a week.
I try to eat sensibly, but it doesn't always work out. I love steak, and calling it cooked is a stretch. I prefer it just barely dead, and slightly warm.:D I have a client, an older Woman who I go out to eat with often. (Yes, Missus P&R Fan knows). We discovered the ULTIMATE comfort food: Good french fries...dipped in melted butter.:p It's so good it's sinful. We also discovered crawfish etouffee at a local restaurant, which is awesome.

I eat what I want. Often, it may not be "healthy", but I'm gonna die someday no matter what, so I might as well enjoy life now. Plus, I know where I'm goin' when I assume room temperature, so that's a plus.

Now, I really want some pie.:D
(Gooseberry is my favorite).

Man! I can hear your arteries slamming shut from here! :D

It does sound good, though...I like butter. So much so, that my wife used to ask me if I wanted my butter toasted on some bread. :D

a steady diet of cheeseburgers, cheetos, guinness and ........broccoli..... will keep one.....healthy, wealthy and wise!!!

I hate Lima Beans. But I eat anything and would eat those if that was all that was left... maybe a stick first, dirt clod, that giecko lizard on a stick over a campfire, roadkill. :D LOVE a big thick grilled stake. I smell bacon & cabbage...Liver & Onions.
