IMHO the..... all around best..... utility,...... general/all purpose..... .357 magnum revolver is a 4 inch 686........... your 4" 66 can serve as a concealed carry if you need one ..... not the best but will do the job...........

to those two ........ well..............................

Maybe a 3" but I honestly see no way to hide a 4". What is your secret?

Anyone that recommended anything other than a S&W needs to sign out and go elsewhere.

For the OP, you need to evaluate your shooting interests. Target, competition, self defense, hunting, etc. There are S&W revolvers to suit just about every shooting situation. One of the most versatile, fun, guns is the Model 17/617 .22RF. It has provided the most enjoyment for shooting to thousands of shooters for 85 years is one form or another, as a K Frame 22 RF.

I disagree with your 1st statement, I am a huge pre 1984 S&W revolver fan & 3rd gen S&W semi autos.
But there quality has slipped as of late. Why are there so many threads on the topic?
I think people should get there head out of the sand & listen to people who have had major problems.
That old grey mare aint what she used to be.
So I guess I will stay logged in & use my 1st amendment right & current 1st hand experience with quality.

Also the OP title says You have $800 to spend & NO S&W revolver, what do you get?
So I guess he should log out for his question?

The above is a direct quote from the O/P. The word in question is ONLY.

He said no S&W (unfortunately). I'll go with a Match Champion or a Redhawk. Probably should move this thread as it is not supposed to be about S&W's
