Your Favorite Chocolate

Do you have a favorite brand of chocolate, candy bars and individual pieces? (If you want to discuss cocoa, too, fine.)

l like Lindt & Sprungli and don't see any difference betwen it now that it's made here under license and the Swiss original. Their Intense Orange, with orange slivers, is a favorite.

But overall, I prefer Ghiradelli, made near San Francisco. I think it is absolutely a world class chocolate. I especially like the little squares with hazelnuts or the almonds version, and the dark choc. filled with raspberry. Yum!

I find most Godiva products to be a little too much of a good thing, too intense. But their Key Lime truffles in the shops are really good.

Anyone else here have a preference?

As for hot chocolate/cocoa, I like Swiss Miss instant packets. Just add hot water.

My all time favorite is the See's assorted soft centers, these are also produced in the San Francisco Bay Area. Texas Star if you have not tried these do yourself a favor and order a box. I think you will have a new favorite. T.S. if you try these and don't like them let me know and I will pay for the candy and the cost of the shipping.

Took the wife to "Goodes" chocolates in Kennard IN today. A small
family business that has been a staple to Central Indiana for 50 plus
years. They make light/milk chocolate and dark chocolate with some
of the best "cremes" you could imagine. Nothing like the store bought
kind. At 17 bucks a pound it's not something we get alot but it's some
very good stuff for the sweet tooth.

Ahh, chocolate! I am addicted to the stuff. Some of the best I have had was from Kron Chocolatier on 52nd street in New York City. I understand that they have moved to Long Island now though. Hershey's is a decent product, I like the way it tastes, kind of like a comfort food. It was the gateway drug for many of us. Ghirardelli's is another good, mass-produced product. There are thousands of great boutique chocolates on the market now. The upscale supermarkets now carry a good selection. I have also had some of the exotics. In fact, my wife and daughter got me a sampler as a gift a few years ago with chocolate samples from all of the major producing counties around the world.

If you are a true chocolaholic, you know what "Black Lightning" is and have eaten it from a spoon.

I don't know the brand names as you fellows do. All I know is that there are definite differences in the various kinds I've tried, and some I like and others I don't.

What I don't like:

-rich
-gooey
-smeary
-creamy
-glossy, smooth texture


What I do like:
-dry
-crumbly
-powdery, rough texture


The former kind seems to be more common and the Europeans specialize in it -they can keep it.

The latter kind I've found most common in Pennsylvania Dutch country. I have to stay away lest I get exceedingly fat.

My fave would be a no-name supermarket brand, I don't even remember what it is. It comes in big bars, about 3x9 inches and 3/8 inch thick. I costs about a buck and a half, and compares favorably with expensive Swiss chocolate. Or it could just be that knowing how cheap it is makes it taste that much better.

I'll take Hershey's Special Dark every time! I've tried all the imported Dark Chocolates, but to me the Hershey's Special is tops! I stick it in the freezer so it's nice and crunchy, mmmmmmm!!!!!!!

Wife got a bag of 50 assorted of that stuff for Christmas from the insurance rep.

I had a few, but I'm just a country boy who doesn't care for the fancy stuff much. Tastes okay but just didn't care for it. Too rich!

Give me a bag of Peanut M&M's anytime over anything else!

As a kid when Mom would bake cookies she'd have to do it when the 4 boys (me included) was outside or we would either eat all the chips or pick them out of the uncooked dough.

Still love them alone also, and I'd say second to M&M peanut.

Since they closed the original plant in Hershey, Pennsylvania and moved it to Monterey, Mexico I'm not so fond of Hershey's anymore.
