I would let the aliens levitate me up into the belly of their spacecraft with their tractor beam, all the while concealing my fully loaded, trusty Brazilian Model 1917 .45 ACP and a pocket full of hotloaded moon clips. About the time they start the "probing," I would probe as many of their oversized noggin's as possible with extreme prejudice...

Hah! Believe me, that was considered. For myself, I dunno that even my tuned Garand would do anything to space traveling aliens. Who knows if even that .50 Browning would? But, I'm more worried about getting past bad people and out of town. So I picked reliable guns that use commonly found lightweight ammo for walking.

If we had a vehicle, then I changed to a Garand and an 8 shot .357 revolver while keeping that "good" .223. We also have fewer magazine issues to worry about with this choice. The truck or car can carry a lot more ammo, and the camping gear, and extra clothes, and meds, and so on. If we were at the cabin then we would have all this stuff with us, and we'd just stay there.

Besides, I don't have a .50 BMG. snif snif.....

My ammo bearer totes the .223 ammo box with 105 loaded moonclips, I'll have the 625JM and probably a 627 Pro, with lots of .38/.357M ammo. Come on, Zombies!

I got the Cody Lundin book "When all Hell Breaks Loose" from Amazon, and my wife and boys are all fighting to see who will get a chance to read it first! Good read, not the usual bullshit.

Which brought us back to this thread, my wife said she wanted to keep her BPS 20ga bird gun close by. My boys each have a Henry 22 rifle, and they squabbled over each grabbing one of Dads revolvers. My brother was at the house last night and decided he was going to grab my Browning Citori for birds and deer. My 16 yr old claimed my 870 slug gun, but said he wanted the smothbore 20" bbl for squirrels and such also.
In all, we had a pretty entertaining conversation over some pizzas and beer regarding being ready for power outages, etc. And my wife is out today doing some shopping for stuff like candles hurricane lamps, and canned goods. Cody's book has really opened our eyes regarding some essentials we take for granted and are unprepared for....

It appears some sort of probing would be required here...

My SHTF guns would be a Remington 870 and an XD45. Of course I've got my 640-1 in my IWB so that's a gimme.

Something to think about regarding the long guns: you folks have slings for them, or you gonna carry them by hand? How about the ammo? I've got to think about this myself...

Nick,
Most of my deer guns have slings, but a functional sling can be made in a pinch with a length of heavy string/rope (my old man did it with my 22 every time we went out in the woods to plink when I was a kid).
And, to be honest, I'm not leaving the house, so I'm not carrying anything. I have food, beds, a heat source, shelter, candles, water, etc. We're gonna stick tight and ride it out right in our little castle.

I guess if it's two one would be my Sig Model P226 in 40 S&W and the other would be my SKS that takes AK magazines.

Probably wouldn't leave though as I have everything I need plus more more fire power at the homestead.

I'll grab the mini-14 and my model 19 4" 357 drop the prepacked black sea bags in the bed truck and head after them. Come to think of it the ammo has been in those bags for over a year, maybe I should change it out.

I pray that it doesn't come to that but ignorance is for liberals.

I'm too old and too stubborn to leave. This isn't the best place to defend, but the next one (the retirement place in Tennessee) will be better.

I guess I feel a bit like the 82nd Airborne soldier in Normandy who was ordered to hold a crossroads. When told by a retreating sergeant, "The Germans are right behind us", he replied, "Don't worry, Sarge, the bastards aren't coming any farther!"

Assuming my wife goes to; although sometimes she gets left to the aliens. I grab the AK already in a traveling case with 4 30 round mags, also the spare Mag pouch with 5 more 30 rounders. A Kimber .45 with 4 spare mags. She goes with the Mossburg 590 (we'll leave her H&R .22 and trick her into carrying a 2.5" 66). I'll sneak a box of .357s for me, she can use my speed loaders full of .38s.

I'd take my Remington 870 with a bird barrel and a slug barrel, my .44 3rd Model HE, and, if I had a car or truck, my Mosin Nagant M38.
