Your screen name, what does it mean.

Dragonslayer is the character I potray at Scarborough Faire, and 808 is my badge # on the volunteer fire dept I'm on. So far I have been able to use that combination every where I need it.

I have some old friends from the military, both retired E-9s--they are married to one another. She's smart cookie, multiple degrees and so forth, and a lot of fun. He's a high school grad, but smart in his own way, and my MC riding buddy.

Anyway, he's famous for making up words, ala Norm Crosby, unintentionally, and she's always giving him the old "eye-roll" when he does. For example, he thought his thyroid was in his thigh (!), if he eats too fast he gets "innergestion", if a car rolls over it "calapults"-- that's kind of stuff.

So, one night the four of us are out on a double-date, and prime steaks are what we are eating. They were very tasty!

So he says to me, "Man! you can't beat these Black Agnes steaks!"

Well now! I handle this pretty good, but his better half is guffawing fit to bust her gut, eyes rolled back into her head, and my wife, she's clueless, wondering what the hell was so damn funny.

Ever since that night, my ride has been Agnes, and my screen name:

BlackAgnes!

I joined a few years ago under my usual user name, but when I tried to log back in, the answer I got was that the name had already been taken. I went as far as trying to contact the owner, but never received a reply. In a moment of fustration I typed "Igiveup" and was accepted.

Mine is sort of a personal reminder of my great Dad. Dad had the trust and confidence in me to sign for my Model 29, when I was 14 years old. It meant a lot to me, as I really wanted that revolver, and my Mom was determined it was a bad idea.

Dad is gone now, but the Model 29, purchased in his name, is still here - and always will be.

Thanks to you silvercorvette for posting about Jesse James. I will print and save your posting. They say alot of people can trace their family back to Jesse James. I know that the Howard family tree is hugh so it may be true. If anyone else needs the family info let me know. Note to decendants of Silas Howard and Betsy Carpenter. Bruce

The first name of my Great-great-grandfather who fought in the Civil War and my football jersey number attached to his name.

35Rem for the .35 Remington Cartridge. My first (firearms) love was Remington Model 11 shotguns. My grandfather (died 11 years before I was born) had a Model 11 that my Dad still has.
I found a Remington Model 8 in 35 Remington that was a dead ringer for the Model 11 shotgun and had to have it.

That lead to a Remington Model 141 in the same caliber. It's an awsome little pump rifle.

I have since added a Marlin 336CS in 35 Remington and hope to add more 35's. It's a neat caliber that gets the job done on deer sized game.

I was in the US Army Band for ten years and I am a bass player.

That is me on a civilian gig without the uniform.

In uniform, electric variety.
I started on the internet on bass (pronounced base) sites and used the handle as a play on words. Never thought to use another one.

I got a call about a fight in a rural bar, and a crazy man had run everyone out of the bar and was in there alone.

Bar fights weren't usually my beat as a Highway Patrolman, but I was the only LEO available in the county right then.
Being forewarned by the patrons and bar owner about what was going on, I put on my riot helmet and grabbed a riot baton.

When I went in, he had a pool cue and we went to war. He was too drunk to be very dangerous but he weighed 295 and couldn't feel any pain.
I split his forehead open,(that really pissed him off) I broke his collar bone, and a couple of ribs, before he quit.

Iggy was a lone wolf mountain man type.
On the way to town, he said, "Damn, you're nasty with that stick!"

While he was in the hospital I was his only visitor.
When he was released from the hospital, I took him to court and to jail. He got 30 days.
I was his only visitor.

When he got out of jail, I took him back to his mountain.

When he treed the bar again, they called me.
He would be on the fight until I walked in
He would say "Aw hell, I can't fight you, you're my friend." He would grin and hold out his hands for the cuffs.
From then on when Iggy got into trouble, they would call me on or off duty and I would go get him.
Over the years we became good friends.

I told him if he got drunk and killed someone in a car wreck I would never forgive him.

One day I was called to investigate a wreck on the mountain. It was Iggy and he had run off the road and wrapped his car around a tree. He was pinned in the car. I crawled in the car with him.
He looked at me and said, "Chip, I didn't kill anyone else."

I said,"Yeh, Iggy, I know" and he died.

I was the only one at his funeral and I spread his ashes on his mountain.
People couldn't understand why I went to all the bother with someone like that.
All I could tell them was," Aw hell, Iggy was my friend."

Iggy, you must have a lot more stories, and you really have a way with words.....Have you ever thought of writing a book, or short story magazine articles, etc.? You should.

Bucco,

A lot of people have told me that. I have forgot more than I remember.

I do have a website with some short stories at the bottom.

Some are true and some are based on experiences with a little thrown in for extra measure.

Just keep in mind Ol Iggy will tell you a story 3 differ'nt ways before he would tell you a lie..

Fun thread. Iggy, I really like your story. You are a good man. Alpo, yours was a lotta fun, too. Wonder what happened to that mean old dog? Such a mystery!

Liked all the other stories, too.

My screen name is from a neighborhood, a location, just north of Hilo, Hawaii, on the Big Island It is a place name. There is a botanical garden there now, and there is also an Onomea Drive, about a four mile drive, that is very scenic, reminding many of the road to Hana on Maui. A hunderd years ago there was a little town and sugar mill. Onomea Bay is the name of the bay there, and until about 1958 or so there was a natural arch in the bay which collapsed into the sea due to an earthquake. The arch used to be featured on postcards. Anyway, I bought land there, overlooking the bay, tho I later sold it and bought on Oahu, as my wife thought the area too isolated, beautiful though it is.

I have read that "onomea" in Hawaiian means "beautiful place," although I don't know if that is true or not.

I'm another one of those TJMN guys. "That's just my name." I threw the C in as a feeble effort to differentiate myself from the other 19,999 David Wilsons in North America.
