Your screen name, what does it mean.

While setting up my first PC, I needed a e-mail name. It was like a deer in headlights, never thought of using my real name and had zero idea what to use. As it happened to be, I just got back a few days earlier from a caribou hunting trip - the light bulb went off and the email was done. I just carryover the email to all the forum names.

One of my favorite authors is Ross MacDonald (the pen name for Kenneth Millar). In particular, I have long enjoyed his series of mystery novels featuring private detective Lew Archer as the protagonist. The novels are typically set in the Los Angeles area, where I live. Paul Newman played the character in two films, "Harper" and "The Drowning Pool." In these movies, the name Archer was changed to Harper.

In the novels, when armed, Archer typically packed a revolver...the make wasn't specified, and it was never described much beyond ".38"...but it might well have been a Smith, so I figured it would be a good screen name for a Smith and Wesson forum.

While I'm on the subject, my avatar is a photograph of MacDonald.

Fixed broken bones for Uncle Sam for 4 years then spent 34 years fixing broken bones on children. Glad I'm retired. Larry

Mine is about saab cars. Saabo is really saab built camper to be pulled behind a Saab 99 and I also love to camp.

Mine was my Army fixed radio callsign when I was a battalion commander - all 1st ID callsigns begin with a "D". Devious was the 101st MI battalion and "6" is the commander designation.

It reminds me of the four "bad" things that could happen to silver bullets when I dealt with them from the 80's to the 90's and the first unit I was in that had them.

Initially it was the name of Elly May Clampett's boyfriend on "The Beverly Hillbillies" and was then adopted by one hell-raisin' rock band from New Orleans in the 1980s.

See Photos for Explanation.
