Your wedding date

Did not want to hijack the other wedding thread.


For you gentlemen (and I direct this to the gentleman because we know the ladies have no problem remembering dates) that had any input of which day you would get married, did you choose a date that you could remember?


I proposed in very late May. I told her we had to get married Saturday. This upset her. It was too soon. I told her that if she wished me to remember our anniversary, we needed to get married Saturday. I could remember D-Day.


I've often wondered if this was the reason my brother got married the day he did. He was a Marine. He got married November 10th.

Got married on a Sunday afternoon, August 19, 1973. Ate pizza at a pizza hut 30 miles away, spent the night in a motel, went swimming in the pool. Got up the next morning and went to work on a construction crew, I was finishing up drilling new grasses on the side of the highway. A week later we moved to start school. That was 48 years ago and I don't know how many years it was before I could remember the date. Got to be a running joke between my bride and I. Then my brother got married on the same date exactly 10 years later so that helped.
 
When I proposed to my wife I was still in college and only 21 years old so it was a "will you marry me someday" proposal. She said yes, but on advice of her mother she said, "I will need six months notice when you decide on the date." We picked out a ring and I started making payments on it.

Without her knowing it, I double up on payments and got the ring paid off. On Christmas eve 1971 I gave her the ring and said, "Six months from today is June 24th and is a Saturday, so lets get married that day."

Next June will be our 50th anniversary and a lot of life events have transpired. Some have been wonderful, some have been difficult, but all have been made better by our being together.
 
I had been in love with my wife so long that I wanted to get married as soon as I could. I didn't really care about the date so it was a random one with no historical significance.

As far as remembering special days like our anniversary, birthdays and such, it has never been a problem. Heck, I can even tell you when I first saw my wife and what she was wearing.

Our anniversary falls on the same day every year! May 13. In 2009 the NRA Annual Meeting was on the weekend following our anniversary. We both took several days off work and I had a new truck so we enjoyed the drive down to Charlotte. On Thursday afternoon I said it was time to get ready for dinner, and dressed in a sport coat and tie. She had on jeans and a nice floral T-shirt. and we drove into downtown. She must have been hungry because she pointed out every place to eat nicer than a McDonald's! I found a nice Brew Pub in the lower level of one of the BIG NAME hotels and in we went. I started with a 5 small glass assortment of their specialty beers, thinking she would help drink it. It took me offering then asking, then insisting she help me drink all this beer. On the second or third beer, she looked at me with wide eyes, and said "Today's our anniversary, isn't it?" Yes dear number 31! She started behaving a little better, and said I couldn't understand why you drove past all those perfectly good places to eat, and drove all the way here.

On Friday we went out to Merkicle & Smick, they litterly ran out of food before we were seated.

So, her sister and her husband were in town for the NRA also. She calls them and tells them what road to drive up and will eat wherever looks good. My brother in law calls back and says he found it, so we drive down a while and there is a Biker-Bar, yup that's the place. Best BBQ I ever had!

My wife sits next to me and tell her sister "I have wonderful news." "Rebekah is expecting triplets!" Without saying a word her sister pulls out her cell phone and calls her son (The father of twins) and tell him about the triplets. You could hear him yelling in the phone a couple of tables away, "She's always out doing Me!" And slams down the phone!

By and large, I think that was our most memorable anniversary ever!

We are past 43 years now, And I still get to tell people I remember our anniversary and she's been known to forget! As long as she goes home with me, I'm happy!

The Mrs. chose the date and place. My only requirement was that it wasn't during deer season. We were married in a small church and had the reception at her parents home. Her mom and I fixed the food and I got a barrel of good craft beer and some hooch. A good time was had by all!

The camp owners nephew didn't plan well and his wife had their first child on opening day. He hasn't been back to camp since and that was decades ago. :rolleyes:
 
I met my wife the day after she moved to Arizona. The last thing her father told her before she moved was "don't call me in two weeks and tell me you're getting married." Well, guess what! :D

Our wedding was the following spring, on May 17th. It's been a wonderful 24 years, and I consider myself to be quite lucky.

As far as the date, I put it on our race car (which both of us drive) to help me remember... :p

I didn't choose the date but for the last 39 years it's on May 1st, May Day, May Day. If I get the month of May right for wedding, birthdays, then I'm golden the rest of the year.:D

That's what I did on the first date with my future then and now ex wife.

Had a date for Saturday night, was having second thoughts and didn't want to waste a Saturday night.

Called her around noon and asked if she wanted to go shooting, she did. She didn't return home till the next afternoon. Stayed together around 30 years.
 
I married my high school sweetheart, will be 53 years on February 11th, (we were both 19) and February 11th just seemed to work out well. Some ladies in our Sunday school class once asked "why didn't you wait 3 days until Valentine's Day?, that would have been soooo romantic". I replied that we couldn't get a baby sitter for the 14th. It was a cold ride home from Sunday school that day, ha. And.... I've told others that I was so young when we got married, that I had my bachelor's party at Chuck e Cheese.
 
My wife and I got married on a whim. A quick drive from Boise to Reno and the deed was done on September the 17th.
That date is in the middle of the elk rut and archery season. A bad choice of dates, but Mrs. Chukar has graciously bid me goodbye a couple days before our anniversary as I depart for my annual elk hunt for most of our anniversaries.
She is as fine a woman as man could find.
 
My wife was Italian. Big Italian family. Strong willed Italian MIL. Also Catholic. We were married by her uncle, the priest. Big Italian Catholic wedding.
I had no say in nuthin'. :rolleyes:

Honestly, I was kinda glad to not have to deal with all that mess. It worked out just fine. ;)
