Took the step daughters out for their first deer hunt. Montana has special deals for kids. The teachers convention is scheduled right before the opening of big game season and kids get to start hunting 2 days before adult's on Thursday and Friday. They need a mentor if no hunter safety. I mentored them and after home lessons on safety and handling we made multiple trips to the range. First with a 22 then a couple of Remington 600s in 6mm. The oldest girl got a doe Thursday evening.. It hunched and took off at the first shot and I said shoot it again. Bang and it dropped like a rock. First shot was good, in chest cavity, deer just ran, second shot was a running neck shot. Kind if amazing. Next morning with second girl a bunch if does came across clearing we were watching. Nailed hers with one heart shot. This morning it's the wife's turn unless I see the " Monster"

The wife got her first deer this morning. A real nice 5x5 mule deer. I might have to step up my game a bit to top it. She was bit tired of hunting after helping skin and cut up the girl's deer, after missing a couple opportunities at does. Nailing a nice buck sure fixed that. LOL. Time for her and kids to head back home and me to get serious. Pictures when I get back to a computer.

My daughters went with my father for youth hunting weekend here in Virginia. I couldn't get off work that weekend. My youngest did not have any luck however my oldest fired 2 shots and killed two nice does. Both offhanded the first was a neckshot about 50 yards. The second one the youngest couldn't see the deer so she handed the rifle off to deadeye and at about 65 yards she dropped with a head shot. Later she told me " daddy I didn't want to ruin any meat!!". She makes this old jarhead proud.
