I am so proud of our little dog "Booger." She's four years old now, and she understands the workings of our daily home life better than we do.

In the last year, she has undertaken a new duty voluntarily. She has her ears attuned to the distinctive sound of the mail truck and can distinguish it from all others. Now the mail can arrive at just about any time from noon to 6:30 in the evening, and it's hard to go out to the mailbox every so often only to find it's still empty.

Booger has taken herself to notifying us when the mail has come, getting excited, barking and running to the door. I usually ask her if she's SURE its the mail truck, and she responds with an enthusiastic WOOF when she's positive.

She seldom misses, and she now gets rewarded for her alerts after I bring the mail in.

Dogs are amazing; they know far more than we give them credit for!

They are amazing! My pup's a week shy of 5 months old and she's slowly learning "get your leash" when she wants out. I taught that to my last Weim in one evening when she was about 8 yrs., but this pup is too busy just learning life in the Taylor household!

Most folks know about the 5 second Rule from the CDC. Which states you can pick up and eat whatever you dropped on the floor without fear of getting sick from contamination if it has only been on the floor 5 seconds or less.

However, the 5 second Rule does not apply if you have a 2 second dog.

And the dog does not fear anything regarding food being on the ground/floor for more than 5 seconds or an hour for that matter.

The moment I first saw this picture of her as a puppy (sent by my #2 daughter from Las Cruces NM) I remarked "What a cute little booger!" She stole our hearts, for sure.

My Grey knew when it was 3:00 as that was time for his afternoon walk. He would go to front door and stare at me. He got a ride around the development after his walk, would see some of his buddies.

You have a beautiful dog. We care for rescue schnauzers that have a similar look. Our present dog was badly beaten by the husband in a divorce situation and given up by the wife. He tolerates me now, but try entering the property as a stranger to him when my wife or daughter is around. Ballistic. The meter reader and bugman make reservations now.

I can beat that. I knew a lab that would dive four feet into a beaver pond to retrieve a can of beer and hand it to you. Good dog!

When we had our Cocker( beast from the East) and “ our” Dalmatian( daughter’ in college) the Dalmatian would pick up the Cockers leash and lead him around house before their walks. Dogs are smarter than many realize.

Great story, Paladin. We have a male Dachshund who is almost 18, and the poor old guy is about deaf. But my wife says he still hears the sound of my truck when I drive up and gets all excited.

Both dogs we have had the pleasure of owning us had built in clocks. The Wire-haired Fox Terrier we had use to go and sit at the front door at 5 in the afternoon patiently waiting for my wife to come home.
The last dog, a mutt, would go to the door in the afternoon to be let out so she could wait under the Magnolia tree for me to come home. My arrival times varied up to two hours, but in the summer, I could always see her there when I topped the last hill on the way home.

Strange my youngest dog can tell what day of the week it is. Every Sunday I grind their nails and trim the hair on their paws. I can approach my youngest dog any time of the day or night during the week. She will come when called. However on Sunday mornings, when I go to pick her up to get groomed, she has a fit and it is an adventure trying to corral her. After we are done, everything goes back to normal. Fortunately the older dog could care less and waits for her grooming. I love my dogs.

My neighbor's dog, a youngish American Bulldog, and our dog Ted are buddies. Rocky will see us walking and starting whining and crying in a strangely high pitch for such a muscular dog. When I get home at night and turn the corner, Rocky knows its me/my car, and will watch my house to see if I will come back out with Ted.

I had an uncle (army veteran of WW i and WWII) who lived a few doors down from me and had a chihuahua mix named Rex. He worked at a factory a few blocks from his home. When the quitting whistle blew, Rex knew to walk two blocks to the bar and jump up on a stool that was saved for him by all the regulars. My uncle met him and they proceeded to have a few beers together. They walked home together afterward, usually without stumbling.
