TODAY, HAD MY FIRST CCI 22 RF "DUD" IN MANY YEARS

One of the things that I like about Aguila is their quality control which seems to be a bit lax with some US manufacturers such as Remington. My chronograph results show that ESs with Aguila are far less than most any other brand. Accuracy with rimfires seems to be a firearm preference issue. Two of my revolvers group better with Aguila STD velocity than CCI Std Velocity. My rifles seem to prefer CCI over Aguila.

I've found group size is a better and more reliable indicator of accuracy than ES (or SD) numbers. It's possible that the very best groups will have the lowest numbers, but I certainly wouldn't count on that happening regularly. This is based on my results with centerfire ammunition, but .22 rimfire should be no different. In forty+ years of using chronographs, I doubt I've chronographed ten rounds of .22 rimfire.

CCI SV is not the most accurate ammo in every .22 I've fired it in, but overall, for ammo in this price range, it has been more accurate in a larger number of guns than other ammos. I'm willing to sacrifice a little bit of accuracy in some guns to keep things simple. That way I only have to buy one ammo.

Twice in the last twenty or so years, I've rounded up about twenty five or more different .22 ammos starting with the real cheap bulk stuff ( largely junk) but stop short of expensive target ammo, i.e., ammo like most of us use. I fire lots of groups with handguns at 25 yards and rifles at 50. You can really learn a lot about your guns and many ammunitions doing this and I find it enjoyable.

When the ammunition shortage started in 2022, I decided that instead of shooting .22 shells at the prices being charged then I would do my practicing and intra-club matches with CCI Mini-Mags that had to be 35+ years old (price tags said $2.84 at K-Mart for a box of 100 rounds). With my Model 41 over the last three seasons I MAY have had 1 dud. Better than 90% of my .22 shooting has been with these old CCI Mini-Mags. I think I still have about 2500 rounds of them.

Over the last 30+ years I have chronographed a LOT of .22 ammo. Even every different lot of the same ammo I have. Consistency may not always yield the utmost accuracy. But I don't care. When I check 5 rds through a revolver and ES is only about 30FPS, extremely rare, I'm happy. When ES is 130 FPS it's junk in my mind.

My P322

I got this late last fall Shot 500 rounds with it No Duds.
Can't wait to get to the range this spring. 2ft of snow still on
the ground.
