Hello All. Does S&W have any plans for a 5-shot 2" barrel revolver similar to a Mdl 60? I know the .45's dimensions wouldn't fit a current J Frame. A six shot cylinder would be too big for comfortable carry (for me anyway). Oh, and Massachusetts legal. Thanks.

Can't find ammo easily and I like the feel of a Smith. I carry a Mdl 60 w/ .357 ammo. I'm afraid if I ever had to shoot inside my house, I'd be deafened. I don't want +P ammo (too loud indoors), and, I don't think a non+P hollow point will expand out of a 2" barrel, so, I want something that's already .45 caliber going out of the barrel. I don't need speed, I'm going to be right next to the bad guy. Years ago, I shot a home invader with a .38+P Glaser out of a 3" Mdl 36 and he didn't flinch. He ran away though. And, I was deafened for a minute.

There is a Forum section for a wish list...but considering the factory has only seen fit to make a 5-shot .44 Special/Magnum on the L frame, you may be waiting a while for anything smaller or lighter.

Any unsuppressed gunfire is loud enough to damage hearing, even "only" a subsonic .45 ACP, so your alternatives here are electronic hearing protectors or a suppressor. I suspect the latter is not legal in MA. Hope this is helpful.

The concept of an L frame Centennial style revolver (similar to the 296 but in 45ACP) has been discussed here a few times. Apparently there are real technical issues related to the incompatibility between frame and cylinder size and the dimensions of the 45ACP that will make this ... unlikely if not impossible. That's putting aside the lack of a market that makes for a workable return on investment.

Make your shooting life better - use hardcast wadcutters or SWC, relatively heavy for caliber, and loaded to a modest velocity/pressure level.

Better to have a temporarily loss of hearing than to be injured/dead.

While the size is more Det Spl -ish , Taraus did make several flaavors of 5 shot .45acp ( and .44spl , .45LC , .41Mag ) a few yrs ago.

The fact that the home invader did not flinch after being shot w/a .38 +P is not as important as the fact that he ran away. I've seen this before. An officer who worked on my shift shot a guy w/the FBI load out of her stainless 4" and he ran a block before collapsing on the sidewalk. You can never predict how someone will react to being shot and caliber has little to do with it. I've also seen people drop right on the spot after taking a round of .22 LR.

I wonder if you made a four shot .45acp revolver, could it have a square cylinder? So it would sit flatter while in a holster or pocket.

Be a nice backup gun for somebody carrying a .45acp primary.
