Do you keep a mag loaded at home near your gun?

As I said eariler in this thread I have a P226 40 S&W loaded with an extra mag by the bed. I also have a P226 9mm loaded in the kitchen and a S&W Model 66 loaded in the back bedroom in my house. That way I'm within reach of a gun where ever I'm at in the house.

I bought two coated magnetic gun holders at the spring Tulsa Gun show and I'm getting ready to install one under the coffee table in the living room and one next to my computer under the table surface. Those are where I spend the bulk of my time when I'm home and there will be a loaded handgun on those magnetic holders all the time within a split seconds reach.

I keep a loaded magazine, the pistol even comes with a convienient storage space for it insude the handle thingy

Asking if the gun is loaded is like asking if your car has gas in the tank. Remember Rule 1 - "All guns are always loaded."
 
Loaed Mags

All my autos are locked in the safe but three revolvers are loaded in easy reach. Jeff
 
I have a 5 and 3 year old in the house, and I keep 2 pistols loaded with one in the chamber and an extra mag for each in a gun safe under my bed, and at night I put the one with night sites on my bed side table.

My two kids know if they come in the room, to go to my wife's side of the bed. They are both very familiar with my guns and know they can handle them when ever they want, all they have to do is ask me and I get them out and check them 1 million+ times to make sure they are empty then I let them handle them in a safe matter treating them as if they were loaded.
 
I keep mine loaded thru out the house at convenient places. When the Grandkids visit I do a sweep before hand to secure them out of their reach.
 
I am retired, live in an urban environment on five acres, no children anywhere close, never have even Halloween Visitors.
So yes, 4516+2 extra magazines by the bed, 640 usually on my person, P239 loaded w/spare mag for carry sometimes. 870 in the closet loaded.
Should visitors w/children, come all goes under lock and key.

I am going to have some interior painting done, all but carry will be secured while the painters are in the house.
 
I was taught that rule #1 is that you should always assume that a gun is loaded.

In my house, that's a good assumption because they are....All of 'em.

If any offspring are ever in my home, guns are safely put away in a locked closet with the only key on me.
 
heck, I even got them stashed in tree's and other odd outside places....as well as within about 5 ft anyplace in the house....I got issues ;)
 
Another vote for "in the gun with a round chambered". If I ever need a loaded gun I don't want to go looking for a magazine.

Any handgun I've got in the house is loaded, with reloads with it. An unloaded gun might as well be a rock.
Long guns another story - unloaded and locked away.

For the guy who didn't have a safe big enough for long guns. Consider making a fortified, or re-inforced closet. Backing the door with either steel sheet or thick plywood. Decent locks and pin the hinges. Better than a hollow core interior door.

You may want to re-think the "under the pillow" thing. Not recommended by most tactical instructors. Quick access for sure, but there have been several unintended discharges and injuries. If you wish to keep it hidden but quickly accessible, try between the mattress and box springs.

If I am out of bed, I've got my britches on and there is a gun on my belt and a reload in my pocket

If I'm in bed, the gun and a reload is within arms reach on the night stand.

If I'm in the shower, there's a Seecamp and a spare mag in my bath robe hangin' on the door.

My wife runs in about the same condition too. Anyone who comes into our house uninvited is gonna a get a real bang out of their visit.
 
This was not a joke.
The reason why I asked originally was I thought it was bad for the springs in my mag to keep it full.
I also have little ones, so I just wondered what folks did.
I am a novice. Sorry if I offended anyone with a dumb question.
I do want to say thank you to all the knowledge you guys have given me on this board. It is invaluable, and I respect the hell out of all law enforcement and military. You guys made and make this country great.
