M&P 15-22 Results, Post 'em here. I got Mine!!

Not meaning to rain on anyone's parade, but aside from the mag capacity, is there anything this can do that my 10/22 can't in the way of fun plinking?? For the price you paid, I could buy 2 10/22's

I have 3 10/22, each is set up differently.

Other than being different than a 10/22, the 15-22 operates the same as an AR so, it makes a pretty good training aid for those who own and shoot AR's. It's also a good gun to introduce shooters to the AR platform.

Of course, it's a lot less expensive to feed than a .223 AR.

I agree the 10/22 is cheaper and has a very good reputation but in my case I wanted the AR15-22 so I could familiarize myself with the AR15 before I buy a .223 version of it. Also I like the looks of the M&P AR15-22 and I liked the way it felt in my hands over the 10/22. If you like the 10/22 I would buy it in a heartbeat.

By the time you outfit a 10/22 to have the same functionality as an AR15, you will have spent as much or more then the MP15-22.

Plus the M&P is much cooler.

Since when has need ever had anything to do with our gun addiction? I long since lost count of the number of guns that I own and have owned, but that doesn't stop me from looking. My present addiction is about 1 per week. Sometimes I trade sometimes I don't.

As much as I love the 10/22, and would NEVER part with the one I have, I cannot stand that they are painting the stainless steel now. I was going to buy one for my kids and put it away, but I refuse to unless I can find a new/old stock where the stainless doesn't have paint over it. On top of that, the 15-22 has a "match grade" barrel, which would technically make it more comparable to the 10/22T. Last I checked, those were around $400+.

Ok guys my local Cabela's has a 4 hour sale Saturday 29th and the Smith & Wesson M&P .22LR is on sale for $429.99 that is $40 off of their regular price! FYI

My new M&P15-22

I bought the first one that my local dealer got in. I also had a Colt "AR-22" and a 10/22 configured in the ArchAngel stock. While the Colt was plenty accurate, it was frustrating in that many parts are non-standard, like the pistol grip, trigger group, and operations are somewhat different like the safety selector (180 vs 90 degrees), bolt release (non-functional), and take-down and cleaning. I really liked it though, until I got the S&W. The trigger pull is lighter and smoother, operations are more similar to the standard AR platforms, and it is generally more solid feeling even though it is lighter.

Bottom line, I realized I would now shoot the Colt very seldom, so I traded it for a GSG-5, which is also very nice in its own ways. I have also ordered more mags from S&W for the M&P today, which they priced at $20 each plus shipping. They are back-ordered, but should arrive in 2 weeks or so. I highly recommend this rifle -- it shoots accurately, and unlike the Colt, it eats all brands of ammo that I have tested (Federal, Winchester, CCI, and even Remington bulk).

I'm still waiting to get my SIG522LR. I didn't even know about this one until today. Keep filing the range reports.

Thanks 460v. It is similar blogs like this that have helped me to decide which way to go on certain purchases. If it hadn't have been for all the nightmare situations that I read about of folks having to send their Colts into Umarex for repair (and some of them multiple times), I might have kept that rifle anyway just for the sake of the name. I'm glad I traded it for the GSG-5, which I researched quite a bit. It's nice that we can all help each other out in this way.

My bottom line is that I feel S&W did an excellent and well-thought-out job with the M&P15-22. I've added a Magpul stock, a Hogue pistol grip, Ergo ladder rail covers, and a Leupold 1x14 Tactical Prismatic optic that I just love (and I also own some Trijicons, so I am quite impressed with Leupold's response to this category).

Deerslayer, would you mind posting a picture of your 15-22? I would love to see the mods. How do you change the grip?
