The other day, I visited one of the gun shops that I usually go to and bought one pound of Hogdon LilGun and paid $30.00 for it. In the past, about 5-7 months ago, the same store sold it for $24.95. A box of large rifle primers (CCI) ran me $32.50.

I'm just want to know if we here in Hawaii is being ripped off either because of the location, avability or just these dealers taking advantage of the powder shortage situation. At this point, I am considering forming a group buy with one of the major suppliers just to save a couple of dollars.

Question from anyone around the USA----Where do you live and how much are you paying for powders and primers?

Thanks in advance.

I can buy about any powder for $18-$22. Primers here are running $50 or more for 1,000, and that is for the foreign brands. You can't even get name brands here.

I bought a bottle of Bullseye last night for $18, the last Power Pistol I bought about 6 weeks ago was $59 for a 4lb jug and primers are going for $29 and $30 per thousand for SP or LP mainly Federal is what you can find.

Talked to a supplier today who said some stuff he had on backorder for quite a while just started coming in and it seemed like the primer situation was loosening up a little bit. Plenty of SP Magnum, LP Magnum, SR, and LR primers around.

I ordered 3,000 ZERO (9mm, 38 Super, 45ACP) bullets from Roze Distribution on Saturday and received 1,000 (9mm) of them this afternoon, their website says it may take 4-6 weeks to receive so it may take that long on the other 2,000...

Most powders here in SoCal are running between $23-$26 depending on brand. It's not easy to find in most shops.

I've not seen primers anywhere for months, but I see that most are paying from $40-$65 for 1K. Nuts!

The gun shows around here are jam-packed and I refuse to enter. All you see are folks bringing ammunition out on handtrucks until it's all sold in a matter of a few minutes.

Not good (reloading) times.

Here in central Pa, powder is 19.00 per pound for Unique, 2400 and Bullseye, dont know about other powders. Primers can be had for 29.00 per thousand and there are lots of Winchesters available.

This year I have bought 8 pound kegs of Titegroup, American Select, and clays all between 89 and 99 dollars. They also had plenty of just about anything you needed. The primers Federal and Winchesters were 37.99 a thousand.

Prices

Primer prices around Iowa vary greatly depending on which gouger you shop at. We have a brand new Bass Pro Shop and they are the highest prices by far. The local Sportsmans Warehouse has primers for $3. to 3.50/ hundred and will only sell you 200 at a time.

The price you paid for that powder is way off the charts.

If you are talking about me sir, thats why I got 24 pounds as that will do me for at least a couple of years in pistol ammo. The funny thing is the dealer I buy primers from is so over priced on powder I don't even look at it anymore. I guess they are making up for the primers with powder prices.

powder in oregon $ 20 to $ 30 per lb primers $ 3 to $ 4.5 per hundred

I am in southwest Michigan. Most rifle & pistol primers are about $30/1000. Shotshell primers are about $23/1000 unless you buy Remington or Winchester which are about $40/1000. I just bought 10 bags of #9 shot yesterday for $23.50 per 25# bag. Eight pounds of 296 is $119, most other powder is similarly priced. Prices vary ENORMOUSLY depending on where you shop. Squander Mountain is ridiculously high, Bass Pro & Cabelas are not local, but within a 2 hour drive - they are very high also. Some of the small local places are good, others are bad.......

TO ALL:
Thanks for all your responses. I calculated around $21.00 for powders and around $38.00 for primers. Considering the Hazmat charges and shipping charges to Hawaii, I could say that the prices is almost the same all over the USA. The only disparity is the powder, if I did not include the 8 lbs in which the gentleman paid $99.00, the "average" be around $22.00.

As for me, in Hawaii, average (depending on the powder) I pay an average between $28 - $32 for powder and around $30 - $34 for primers per 1K.

I bought a pound of Bullseye a couple of weeks ago. It was $24 if I remember correctly. Haven't priced primers locally as I got stocked up, thanks to Grafs.

I thought the Bullseye was way too high but I figured what the heck.

Bought 8 pounds of Clay Dot Wednesday at the Gun Club for 117.00, new stock.

Here in the People's Republic of Eugene, at Bi-Mart, Remington 1-1/2s & 5-1/2s are going for $3.49/100, available max 400. No Winchesters, no CCI, which is what Bi-Mart usually stocks. Last powder I bought was 1 lb. of Unique. I think I paid $20.

If you have a gun club handy, go in with a few fellers and get a "group buy" of powders, usually in the 100 pound range, and your cost will be significantly lower, and free shipping if the distributor will deliver to your area. This has worked for us here in the past, as we have a bunch of shotgun shooters and we are able to buy in full case quantities. Most of the Alliant powders average about $15 when ordered this way- the distributor brings it by truck and delivers it to the club.

If you get 10-20 guys and can agree on what you want, it makes perfect sense. The hang up is usually full case quantities.
If you can get someone to split a case or two (swap powders once they arrive) you're in high cotton!

I'm in NE PA...

Primers are running between $24.95 and $29.95 in most stores.

Powders are a whole different matter. The prices are all over the place. I've seen pistol powders as low as $19.95/lb. and as high as $29.95/lb. Rifle powders are usually no less than $24.95/lb. and still as high as $32.95lb.

The store I buy from has primers for $24.95 (when they have them) and most powders are in the $20/lb. for pistol powders and $23/lb for rifle powders. Last week he had a case of 4lb. jugs of W231 @$62 which shocked me. (I bought one of course) As for availability, Hodgdon and IMR powders seem to be more available in the past 6 weeks.

For the most part locally I've seen more CCI SR primers than anything else. There are a case of CCI No. 34 primers available last week too. (NATO LR) I bought 2000 for use in my Garand ammo and left the other 8000 for the other guys. They were $29.95/K.

In metro Denver, most everyone is out of stock, but I was able to get 100 Winchester small pistol primers for $47 out the door. It was painful, but still cheaper than buying loaded ammo.

Close to that here in SE PA. Bought 5000 CCI-LP for $27/1000 'bout a month ago. They were $30/1000 list , but the shop gives our club members a 10% discount.

At the gun show in Albuquerque last weekend Wolf primers were $50 per 1000. Other brands were higher. Ron Peterson's didn't have any primers at all. I didn't buy at those prices; I'm going to Houston next weekend and we'll see what they have there.
