After reading up on the pros/cons of both the Colt and SW .22's, I decided to go with the SW. I bought it earlier this week at Academy along with a red dot sight. I took it to the range today for the first time with 1000 rounds of ammo.
I decided to sight it in first so I loaded the mag and began. Imagine my surprise when round 7 jammed. I cleared it and then round 8 jammed. It was at this point that I happened to notice a small black piece laying on my towel. It was the FEED RAMP that had sheared completely off. Smooth as a baby's bottom!
WOW!! Should have bought the Colt! At least then I'd have been expecting a problem. I've never had a gun that malfunctioned, much less broke, before the first magazine was halfway empty!!

Well, i had the jamming issue aswell, didnt notice anything broke, but your the 2nd person on here, that had the feed ramp break on them. They are mailing theres back to S&W tomorrow. You got yours at Academy too huh...thats to bad, i found out the hard way, they wont to anything for you...like be nice about it and exchange the gun for another one or refund. They'll just send it to s&w for repairs for you. Hope to get mine back from S&W this week. Sorry for your troubles, i wasnt none to happy either with my first S&W purchase, and i wont be getting a firearm from Academy again either.

Customer Service

I decided I would try to ship the gun myself instead of taking it back to Academy so on Monday morning, first thing, I called S&W to tell them of the issue and ask how to handle it. They said they would send a shipping label and I could send it back, no problem.

Well, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday came and went. No label. So Thursday afternoon I called them back and asked if they could email me a label to expedite the process. The rep (who didn't appear to be excited about talking to me) told me that I should just wait on the label to arrive. He told me that if I called on Monday, it would not have gone out until Tuesday. When I declined he said it would take 48 HOURS to send out an email label!!!!!!!!!!

I explained that I had just spent $500 on a rifle that broke fell apart after 6 rounds; been waiting almost a week for a shipping label; and then would wait another 2-3 weeks for it to be repaired; so I would be without my new purchase for the better part of a month. I then asked if there was any way to expedite the email so I could get the gun sent off. Well of course there was no way to do anything differently!

In desperation, I took it to Academy and let them send it off. It's now on its way back to S&W. Now it's Friday and still neither label........

IF THIS IS THEIR GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, THIS IS THE LAST SMITH AND WESSON I WILL EVER BUY!!!!!!!!!!!

When they fix it trade it for a Colt. At least this way Colts gun will retain it's value because of the pony on the side. Some guys go gaga over the pony logo.

Call smith at customer service and ask for kate she is the boss

Sorry for your trouble's. I feel your pain for sure, Like i said, i got my 15-22 at Academy aswell, and they sent it back to sw for me. Academy shipped it on the 8th of September, and S&W just returned back to them yesterday, dispite what s&w told me, about they would send it back next day, i got the tracking # today, and they shipped it Fedex ground, so i thought i was gonna get my gun back today, but nope, Tuesday now. Personallly, i wont be getting another gun from Academy or S&W.I really hope this gun is fixed good, and i never have another problem. Like you said, when you just spent 500 bucks on a new gun and it breaks or something is screwy about it within 4 days in my case and have to send it back, it ticks you off. I didnt appreciate Academy not trying to make me happy and just exchangeing my 4 day old gun for a new one, and thats why i wont be getting another gun from them. I'll look for another local gun place that would be happy to make me happy and exhcange or whatever a gun that was messed up, and not have to send the damn thing off, Another member got that kind of helpfulness from a gun dealer he got his 15-22 from, he got a 15-22 that was messed up, and the place was happy to exchange it for another one, and it worked perfectly. but on the + side, the Manager at Academy ive been dealing with through all this, is going to give me either a gun case or a couple boxes of ammo for all my trouble. Best of luck to you.

My Buddy just bought the Colt/Umarex/Walther 22..

Colt/Smith/Umarex....I just don't think it is possible to build a quality gun of the design they're trying for at that price point.

I just took my M&P out for a spin today for the first time and imeediately had problems. The first three rounds on a full mag jammed as soon as they tried to load. I ended up taking the other two out of the mag soo It only had twenty. I loaded it back up and started shooting.

After each mag full I would have at least one failure to load. I got to about the sixth mag load and found the second round got jammed into the mag in such a way I was afraid of the pressure I had to use to get it loose. It was so weird I can't begin to describe what it looked like. After getting that round loose and removed from the mag I noticed a small piece of plastic that came from the inside of the mag. I looked and couldn't find where this piece came from?

Once that plastic piece came out of the mag I had clear sailing with the M&P. The rifle ran through mag after mag of 20 rounds each without another problem. The gun did so well I started looking at all of the spent cases laying on the ground at me feet. I don't have a clue how many rounds I went through, but all I can say is it was fun.

I know you all are upset about your M&P's right now, but be glad you didn't purchase the Colt. I also own one of these rifles and had to send it back. Once you get them back from S&W make sure you take them back down to clean and lube them. They may or may not do this? But when mine came out of the box it was full of grit, and was completely dry. You all know how moving parts don't like it when they have no oil.

Honestly when you do get them back and check them out, when you get to where you shoot you'll be a happy person again. I know it won't remove the bad taste you got from your selling shop and S&W. But I believe you'll be happy.

They are nice rifles when they do what they are supposed to do.

Good Luck Guys. Let us know how you made out.

well i got around 125 rounds thru mine then it fired out of battery and the shell blew up just under the rim. That was sunday and i still am having trouble hearing in my right ear.(I shoot left handed) I took it back and they sent it back to S&W.

Feel sorry for your buddy. I had a Colt M4 ops and bailed to get the S&W 15-22. The Colt is selling on name only. It is ****.

I bought my 15-22 at a Academy, took it to the range same jamming issue as above. Very happy with price I got it for about 410.00, but disappointed with all the problems cleaned it bought different brands of bullets same thing...called S&W and they e-mailed a shipping lable in two days they have it now....waiting!!!!

Sounds like the old ruger 10/22 may still be the best semi-auto 22 huh? I have one that is older than I am, never had 1 problem with it.

ABCD, A-Armalite, B-Bushmaster, C-Colt, D-DPMS. You can't go wrong if you know your ABC's. I know there are other good ones, but it's a simple rule.

Well, im very happy with mine now.

relic1522, when you get yours back, expect to have a a new mag or 2.

I'll take exception with C. My Colt M4 OPS was not a good decision on my part.

These other mentioned manufacturers make .22s?

You should have fixed it yourself it about 5 minutes........

I was thinking about fixing it myself but didn't want to mess with the warranty..played it safe, I never bought from S&W before so didn't know what I was getting myself into. Easy sailing so far.

the 15-22 was my first S&W product. Had the issues right out of the box, they they fixed it, gave me an extra magazine, and since ive got it back, ive got almost 300rds through it now, and its been fun.
