Hello folks,

Looking for enlightment again...

I'm restoring a 686 no dash 4".

The only thing I can't find is the Rear Sight Assembly. It uses the old style square end leaf.

I have some questions:

1. What is the correct height for this revolver, .126" or .146"? Correct S&W part number?

2. Besides Brownells and Numrich, any other online place to look for S&W parts?

3. Any aftermarket manufacturer of a rear sight (adjustable or fixed) for older style 686? It seems that all available aftermarket sights only fit the newer style (round end leaf) revolvers.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

Millet makes a rear sight in various heights that fits the older models with "square tang". Check the Midway catalog. They also have various rear sight leafs such as square, V notch, etc.

Be sure to purchase the adjustment screw and nut for that new blade.

Both Brownell's and Midway should have those in stock, as well as Sample page for the server

If You have a stocking S&W dealer nearby, they may have everything You need, including instant gratification.

You can also just call S&W. Their prices are not any higher on parts and they should have on hand.

I think this will be the way to go...

Anyone have the correct part number for this sight assembly?

I looked in the S&W online Part Listing for Model 686 and all I can get is this:

Part No: 000000005
Cost: $0.00
Description: Rear Sight Assy- SEE CHART

Anything from the no- up thru the -3 rear sight will work for you. Just tell Smith it's a no- and they'll fix you up.
