looking for a 2 inch j-frame for my wife, but cannot find a list of models anywhere that would include past and present...

prefer the non-airweights with an exposed hammer...

would go .22 , .357 / 38

any help on model #'s would be much appreciated...

thanks and Happy New Year to you all..

An excellent NIB model 36 (38 Special) w/original box, papers and tools. Is listed on the forum for sale right now by p0838 check it out.

Let's see if we can help you here, guys please add to the list:
M60, stainless, exposed hammer, 38spl, newer ones in .357
M36, blue or nickel, exposed hammer, 38spl
M49, blue, bodyguard (shrouded hammer that can be cocked for single action), 38spl
M34, blue or nickel, exposed hammer, 22lr

If you want light weight, in 22LR the 43 or pre-43 is a great choice. I have a pre-43, and a 34-1, and the difference in weight is pretty substantial. Both are 4" barrels, but still pocket real well. Especially the pre-43 with aluminum frame.
Good luck, and let us know what you end up with. Pictures are mandatory of course!

BTW, welcome to the forum!

I would suggest the M60. It will cost more but is SS so finish wear will not depreciate it's value unless it's dinged up through carelessness.
I own a 3" M36 & prefer it as a shooter over the 2" model... but if I was in the market today I'd look for SS. I feel that 3" barrels conceal every bit as well as 2"... it's the handle/grips that control the bulk in a holster.
I own a 4" M34. It is a delight in every way. Again, I'd look for stainless in a new (to me) purchase.

Buying the right piece is the best bargain.

i like the model 60 just seems like everytime i find one that is the $ i want to pay... it gets sold out from under me or i am 2 minutes too late....

or... the seller wants new $ for used....

the search goes on.....

What state are you in? The best strategy I can give you is keep cash in your pocket and look often. Gun shops, gun shows and pawn shops.

TEXAS

i have $ in hand for the right gun....gun shows / pawnshops etc.. have nothing to offer.... routinly checking...

Let's narrow the search some, & forget a few. How about 38spcl only, 2", 3" at the most, & sounds like it must be DA/SA. Now we have a full hammer or 'shrouded' hammer. The Mod 37 would work, so would the shrouded hammered 649 & other similar. I'm partial to the shrouded hammer type, though I have a mod 37 & it's fine too. For any type of purse or CC I'd go shrouded, 38spcl is enough for her. No need to spend more $ for the 357 option that won't be used.

How come no one mentioned a mod 37?

probably because it is an airweight....

I am trying to avoid the lightweights.... unless it is technically not...

i had originally gone with a Ruger LCR... which has too much recoil for her... and she had shot her sisters newer airweight and it also had too much recoil...

cant get enough grip on them to avoid the sore hand... we have a 2" model 10-7 that she likes... it is just too big to carry around all the time...
