Fake suppressor!! Please read post before flaming me to death. Thanks MP15-22 PIX and LINK INSIDE

I shot my new 15-22 (44 years old but it's the first rifle I've bought myself) today, for the first time, so I'm still learning.

I thought the small, open thing on the end of the barrel is a flash suppressor and the can thing is a noise suppressor. Am I wrong?

Also, I don't like "bling" but the plain barrel end does look a bit simple to me and I'd like to add the small open flash suppressor. Hopefully, I will never need to use my 15-22 for self defense but making it look more like a high-power rifle can only help.

We shot it today in the country so appearance wasn't an issue... but I don't want to look like a poseur/dolt at the range. Will I get laughed-at if I have a flash suppressor on it?

Any advice is appreciated.

youve got the terminology correct regarding the suppressors. the flash sup. could also be called a flash hider, and the latter could be called a silencer.
as far as the self defense part, i hope you dont need to either, BUT if you do.. you should use something else.

and for the part about getting laughed at.. just remember.. you have a gun! lol, just kidding.. no, i doubt you will get laughed at, but if they do.. tell them to go have 'relations' with their mother! ;)

didnt mean to be snappy but ive never gotten on a web site and put down another mans gun or work in any way if its not for me i dont add my .02.. so forgive me if i sounded snappy..didnt mean to be and i removed my snappy remark. if ive affended anyone im sorry... now with that said back to what this site is about.. helping others with questions...

bmw racer the first pic is of a m&p 15-22 with a muzzle tamer which is like a flash hider only it necks back down on the end to re direct gas pressure to reduce recoil.. not alot of use for 1 on a 22 but they do add alittle weight to the end and make the gun very loud...(in other words most dont think its a 22 going off)

2nd pic is of a m4 flash hider.. its open on the end just like u thought

3rd pic is of my gsg-5sd and my m&p 15-22.. a can is a threaded on suppressor... both of these guns r setup to look as if they are intregally suppressed which means the barrel is the suppressor...its made as 1 piece... intregally suppressed guns are usally much quieter because they bleed off pressure and slow the bullet to sub sonic speeds in rounds that are just abit to fast(ex. 22 and 9mm)... and instead of a $500 can look, its a $2000 intregally suppressed upper look or atleast thats what i was shooting for... but the weight on the end of the makes it feel very nice:cool:

sorry for the rant and the long post hope this helps

LOL. Thanks for the info.

And yes, I have my CHP and an M&P 9C primarily for self/family defense. But if I ever need to use the 15-22 as well, I want it to look tough.

'Looks like there's another thread with good info on adding a flash suppressor.

It doesn't look like the marketing guys at S&W believe many will be laughing. It was recently announced that the 15-22 will be factory equipped with a threaded barrel and compensator.

this isnt really 'that kind' of forum.

Right. This is the kind of forum where people pay a whopping $500 for a .22lr that is at best a sub par shooter... then question the 'practicality' of accessory choices of others.... Gotta find the humor in all of it. ;)

I haven't got my flashlight yet so I am trying to find a good mount for this substitute. Any ideas?

I gotta post before I go to the Hospital. I think I broke a rib laughing so hard. That is funny.
But seriously, if your groups are sub-par, try tightening your barrel nut. It needs to be more than just hand tight.

Leave your 'Tacticandle' in your car in the Arizona summer for approximately 42 seconds (41 being not long enough and 43 resulting in liquefaction) then press firmly down upon the rail of choice.

On a side note, you'll have to shave that 'Tacticandle' down quite a bit to get it to cowitness with the rest of your sights and optics.

Glad I could bring a grin. Gotta poke a little fun at ourselves now and then.

Did tightening the barrel nut on yours change performance? I think Thomas said something about tightening it up and reporting back but I haven't seen a range report or maybe I missed it.

UGH ! I just turned up a fake supressor for the M&P 15-22 on my lathe and can't get my desktop computer online to post the darn picture !!! I'll keep trying........ Shoo

"tacticandle" Yuk yuk yuk... that's good!

Yeah you're right. At first it didn't co-witness worth a darn. But after about an hour of use it began to co-witness real well.

The barrel nut was good and tight from the factory. I would guess 15 foot pounds or so. The accuracy improved when I put a 50mm scope on. The looks improved(?) when I put the free float handguard on. Accuracy and point of impact have not changed from all the swaps. This is one nice stable platform. And loads of fun to boot. I didn't count on it being such a money sponge. Oh well, you only live once.

lol hey phil my wife wants to know where u get ur acc. she likes the tacticandle and since she has claimed the m&p 15-22 i guess ill have to buy 1:D

If I'm not mistaken, Phil's is from Glade's new tacticandle line. It looks to be the Hoppes #9 scent.

Speaking of.... my wife came into my office this morning and asked what was one of her candles doing on my desk. I thought about it.... (should I tell her that I plucked it off her candle table ; put it on a rifle; got out the digital camera; took a picture; uploaded the picture to the computer and then posted it on a world-wide accessible firearms forum as a 'tacticandle'.... or tell her the dog must have dragged it in) I went with the latter... :o

ya ya ya... I am all about being functional, not adding unnecessary weight, real world use, etc etc... But I hate the way the straight barrel looks on the mp22's. So after SHOT 2010 they should be releasing the threaded barrel version mp12-22 and possibly fakey suppressor. But for you guys that already have the mp22's this would be an awesome upgrade to hide that ugly plain barrel.

I bought a sig mosquito earlier in the year and it came with the fake suppressor. It's real good for training especially clearing the house. I have a Gemtech Outback 2 suppressor for typical use. Kids won't shoot without a suppressor...

TactiCandle

Hi guys, new to the forum. Just got my 15-22 on Saturday. I am in love...and just for the record, I bought it to shoot cheap ammo and hang just about anything that I can find on it. I'll post pics when I get the gatorade dispenser worked out. Just wanted to give props to the tacticandle thing. Funniest thing I've read all year...
