M&P9 series or a glock

Glock works well, can't argue that. I like the ergonomics of the M&P, the trigger action and the all metal magazines. I also like the S&W service policy. I have three M&Ps all work very well.

I am a biased MP owner and have three of them. Two are 9mms, a MP 9 Pro and a MP 9c. I really like them. The great ergonomics, they are accurate, and dependable, with a great life time warranty just in case you need it. Glocks don't have the same feel, IMHO.

I own two Glocks and they are very reliable guns. However I prefer the ergonomics and trigger of my S&W M&P's and S&W 99.

I love my M&P, my son loves his Glock. However..... when we go shooting together I end up shooting my other guns because he won't put my M&P down!

For me, the S&W corrects most things I don't like about the Glock.

The grip angle on the Glock is much like the Luger, and I prefer the more vertical grip of the S&W (more like the 1911).
The magazines are more to my liking, and the triggers are similar, but I prefer the M&P Pro.
The Glock has a head start, but the S&W is catching up with available sights and accessories.

My G17 has been the most reliable semi auto I've owned. I've shot many thousands of rounds through it and would not have bought an M&P 9 except a friend who used to work for S&W was very persuasive about its virtues. Unfortunately I had repeated problems with it initially. The most significant was repeated light hits resulting in failures to fire. After extensive attempts to rectify this with a local and competent S&W armorer I sent it into S&W who were able to fix the problem although I am not clear what they did. I use these guns to compete in USPSA and IDPA and am going to give the M&P one more season to see if I can bond with it. I like the looks and feel of the M&P but I want to make sure it is 100% reliable like my Glock is before I decide to keep using it.

x2. The glocks never fit me well. The M&P just FEELS right in the hand. Strongly suggest you handle the m&P before making any decisions. it was all it took for me!

That about sums it up for me too. I competed with Glocks for some time, and accumulated more than 20,000 trouble free rounds. Reliabilty has never been a Glock shortcoming. I ended up trying an M&P and got hooked because of superior ergonomics and trigger pull.

I have an M&P9 and an M&P9L Pro, and would not look back. I have shot approx 5000 rounds with no malfunctions of any kind, and they both shoot better (for me) than the Glocks did. The reliability comparison remains to be proved one way or another.

Incidentally, I handled a 4th generation Glock today. Pointed it, pulled the trigger and now I can't remember why I thought they were so great.

Just my 2 cents.

I own one Glock. As soon as There is an M&P 10 it will be gone. (HINT, HINT to any S&W types reading the forum)

The only M&P feature Glock didn't copy on the 4th gen is the main one for safety, the sear disconnect lever so you don't have to pull the trigger to take it down.

I was thinking about this thread when i went to the range today. Took my Kimber 1911 and my M&P .45 full size along.
The more I shoot it the more I like the M&P. Very soft shooting considering how light it is. Very accurate for a service grade auto. This particular one had a trigger tune up by Dan Burwell which i highly recommend. After that you almost wouldn't believe you're firing a striker fired pistol.
My other two M&Ps are 9s, full size and compact. Both shoot well also but the .45 is becoming a favorite. In fact now considering a .45 compact to round things out.

I find it a hard choise. People please enlighten me why I should choose one or an other?

Glock offer unparalleled excellence to which other manufacturers only aspire. In one word, Glock is "Perfection." Choose Glock. Seriously... the M&P is S&W's version of what they consider to be a product improved Glock. Given their earlier efforts, the M&P is very much an improvement. But the M&P is no Glock. Glock offers proven excellence in manufacture and production, a level of functional reliability that is legendary and a extremely broad range of chamberings that will meet just about any need or interest. From aftermarket producers a broad range of barrels, parts and accessories are available that allow the user to customize the Glock to their own particular taste, usually requiring no tools beyond a simple punch and a little bit of common sense. Further given your location, it would be most likely that Glock would offer the broadest selection of models as well as access to parts, service and customer support. Sincerely. Brucev.

I have an M&P 45 Compact. Fits in the same custom IWB holster as my M&P 9C. Love it.

I offer another vote for Glock.

Think of a handgun as a "platform" rather than an individual item. When I say platform, I mean you will buy magazines, ammunition, sights, lights, lasers, et cetera. With a Glock, there is a dizzying number of accessories you can add to the gun if you see fit.

Reasons to buy a Glock 9 mm are these:

1. 9 mm ammo is one of the cheapest centerfire handgun calibers you can buy.

2. Glock 17 (17 shot) magazines can be purchased for less than $20 from many different sources. Remember that you can use G17 mags in all 9mm Glocks. Also, while the 9mm cartridge may not have the reputation the 45ACP enjoys, remember the Glock can hold 34 rounds (with a 33 round magazine) in a dead reliable configuration that is still relatively compact.

Make no mistake, if you really need to fire in anger, having 34 rounds of 9mm hollow points on tap trumps having only 8 (M1911 platform) or 6 (most medium frame revolvers)

3. The Glock 17/19 has a reputation for being one of, if not the most, reliable firearm under every possible adverse condition. Don't take my word for it; the Internet is full of articles about torture tests against every other kind of semi-automatic firearm. Research for yourself...

4. Few firearms are easier to equip with a light, or laser and light combination.

I use the "worst case scenario" to choose...

Imagine you know a SHTF event is eminent and you absolutely will have to this weapon in anger, and have no other options...

If you had to walk into a gun store, pick any semi auto pistol on display, purchase it, load it with hollow points, and WITHOUT TEST FIRING, put it in your holster and walk out into the world, knowing that at any moment you will have to use that pistol to defend yourself or your family... Which would you choose?

Me? Glock 17 or 19 with no hesitation.

M&P. Better ergonomics, no trigger pull for takedown, supported chamber, looks better, just as reliable and accurate as the glock and at this point, almost as much aftermarket support (although neither pistol really needs much in the way aftermarket parts except for sights).

I'm not a "Glock Hater" even though i dont like the pistols due to the grip angle and ergo's but to call them "perfection" is completely laughable.

Glock has had just as many problems as any other premium pistol brand out there. Please do yourself a favor and do a simple google search for "glock malfunctions" or "glock problems".

In the end find a pistol that feels good in your hands and has the features you like.

Personally i would choose the HK USP 9mm myself but whatever...

I tried repeatedly to make the Glock work for me, and owned a G17 when the M&P came out. I fired a rental M&P at an indoor range and sold my G17 within a few days.

The Glock never fit my hand, the M&P fits like it was made for me.

I was never able to shoot a Glock accurately, the M&P has been accurate in my hands from the start.

Reliability has been perfect on my 4 M&P's, can't ask for more than that.

The Crimson Trace grips on my full size M&P are a fantastic addition. No laser setup for the Glocks is as nice.
