M&P 15-22 Picture Thread

thank you macnarmara. i really love this gun. I like your artsy photo too, lol. I took a few of those. What are your running on your rail covers. I've noticed some pics with that on it. Is it some kind of grip tape?

I may be jumping the gun but almost positive, correct me if im off, but its called stipling, or something like that.

Take a soldering iron(pen type) and just go to town. Theres a thread around on an AR forum from a guy modding an A2 grip and doing this type of method.

Strat, Cooper is right. They're Magpul XTM rail covers that I stippled. Like Coop said, get a soldering iron and "dimple" the polymer. Pretty easy. You'll end up with what I have there.

Be warned, I originally did the grips on my Glock, but it gets addicting! ;)

very cool guys. i like the look of that alot, i may pick up an extra bag or two of xtm's and see how they turn out.

Like stated before its a heat stippling job done with a soldering iron. I also did the grip on my EDC Glock 27 because the polymer is so slippery when you have sweaty or muddy hands. Just like Mac said, it is addicting. It doesn't take a great deal of skill to get it done, but it takes patience and a little skill to make it look "good". Be smart and test your stippling skills on an area that wont matter or even an old A2 grip. If you don't feel comfortable doing it there are several companies out there that offer it as a service.

BTW, nice looking rifle Mac. How long did it take you to stipple all those XTM's?

stratdragon92, I love the way the XTM's really change the look of the rifle. Initially, I had some KAC covers on the 15-22's rails, but they didn't like to stay in place.

Cheers, m4jor. Took me about 15 mins per pair of XTM's.

Here's an update. The old spray job looked pink in the camera flash, so I re-hit it...

Still not finished. I want to get one of those Primary Arms T1 knock offs for it and camo that to match the rest of the rifle. Then I think this will be done.

I think. ;)

Hi. This is my first post here. I've been reading the 15-22 forum for the last few months ever since I decided I wanted to get one. I finally got the threaded version, #DUA0xxx, last Wednesday after waiting nearly 2 months with the rifles on back order at the store. I've been watching this topic and finally decided to post.

Addons:
3 extra 25 rd magazines (new type)
Surefire G2 held on with 1 inch Weaver rings
CenterPoint laser sight
UTG 5-position foregrip
Tasco RedDot

=========

By the way, this is my first S&W and my first black rifle, unless you count my 10/22 with all-weather stock. 1500 rounds and only 3 jams. 30 rds CCI MiniMags, 50 rds Rem. Golden Bullets, and 325 rds Federal AutoMatch with no problems, 1095 rds Federal 550 Bulk with 3 stove pipes. I call that good. So far I've only shot it at 10 yards, and at that distance it is as accurate as my other .22 rifles.

the camo job is looking sick mac! your right about the xtm's they really set the rifle off. Even the black ones make such a huge diffrence.

I still need the barrel threaded sometime in the future, I don't really like the slip-on flash hider.

did you have any issues with your rear take down pin detent when you put that miad grip on there. mine isn't catching the spring and putting pressure on the detent and the take down pin just falls out now.

newer pics, still want to change the stock to a Magpul one, still debating on going black or getting the UDE color to match the XTM rail covers.

I have the magpul grip wedge that fills the area where the spring hits the grip, and also fills the gap between the receiver and the grip.
