nice sticky, thanks for the info this will help me stock up on good ammo for my future new 15-22

all work in my Dtx, none upgraded. friend has Dtx and all work in his.

Winchester Wildcat,
Rem subsonic ammo
Federal Champion
Winchester "333

The first ammo I tried (fed 525 bulk, 36 grain hp) had 0 problems so I have stuck with it and been reluctant to try anything else. Better groups would be minimal as with these I'm getting groups no larger than 5", but mostly 3".

My buddy has been using Remington Golden Bullet in his. We have fired about 1000 rounds through it, and while the accuracy is good (averaging about 1.25" groups) we have been getting failures about every 5 shots. It is his father's gun, and he never bothered to look at the manual. While researching the gun because I am thinking about getting one, I found out that his ammo is not recommended. Also, his gun is one of the first batch, so I told him to contact S&W to get extractor, spring, and mag upgrades.

Everyone,

If at all possible when you post what ammo works for you can you please be a bit more detailed? The only reason I mention this is so that if anyone say goes to Wal-Mart or MidwayUSA they can easily look up the same ammunition.

For example, the rather popular Federal "375 Red Box", "525 Red Box", or "550 Red Box" 22lr found at Wal-Mart is a 36gr copper-plated hollow point. When I do a look-up over at Federal's website they have this listed as Load Number 745 with all of the velocity and other stats. This helps others who wish to use the same round due to either performance or reliability are, for one reason or another, not able to find these bulk packs are able to find the same load in the smaller 50-round or 100-round boxes.

And if any of you have ANY confusion about details on a particular load do please ask them and I'm sure if not myself someone else will chime in if they happen to know. This way we can help each other find the loads we are desiring to help feed our "children" the most accurate "food" possible. ^_^

Tried the Federal 333 bulk from walmart. first mag went fine. second mag and they got all jammed up in the magazine and there was 5 failure to ejects

Federal doesn't sell a 333 at Walmart.

Either Federal 375 or Winchester 333.

I have run the Winchester 333, a few issues, but the gun wasn't broken in at all.

Since then, I have run the CCI Minimags in roundnose, the Federal 40 grain roundnose Gameshok, the Federal Walmart bulk (redbox), and Winchester subsonic all with no issues.

Joined S&W Forum a few hours ago, hoping to find out what was wrong with my baby. You good folks told me. Rem HV ammo. UPS just delivered some CCI Stinger, so baby should be okay now.

Going to look again at the manual and see what else I missed.

I must just be the fortunate son, so to speak. My 15-22 digests everything I feed it, and I think that should be the norm, not the exception. Here's what I've fed through mine (all High Velocity, no sub sonic):

a. Rem HV, 40 gr bullets, 150 rounds, zero problems
b. Rem GB 550 round Bonus Pack, 36 gr, no problems except for one round that didn't go off (dud) but had a definite firing pin strike
c. Rem GB 525 round Value Pack, 36 gr, no problems
d. Rem Thunderbolt, 50 rounds, 40 gr, no problems
e. Win 555, 36 gr, no problems
f. Win Super X, 40 gr,150 rounds, zero problems
g. Fed 550 round Value Pack, 36 gr, 4 duds, 2 rounds with bullets that were bent with respect to the case (didn't chamber right?)
h. CCI Stingers, 32 gr, zero problems.

I have been running nothing but copper plated ammo but want to try out some non-plated lead stuff. Should I clean my barrel more shooting non-plated ammo?

Hey everyone. Had myself a great day at the range and thought I'd share how my 15-22 went through a bunch of various ammos and share pics of my targets. I did all of my shooting at an outdoor range at 25 yards with 0 wind. I shot from a very solid benchrested position with a NcStar 3-9X42 scope. All groups are 10 rounds shot at 1 inch stickers. Exception is the Rem GB was shot at a 2 inch sticker because I ran outa 1 inchers. Scope was zeroed using Win 333 ammo so ignore group placement, what counts are sizes. Ammos tested:

Federal 550 Bulk Pack
Remington Gold Bullet 550 Bulk Pack
Winchester 333 Bulk Pack
Winchester Super X .37 Grain High Velocity Hollow Point
CCI Mini-Mag .36 Grain Hollow Point
CCI Mini-Mag .40 Grain Round Nose
CCI Stinger Hyper Velocity

Looks like for my 15-22 CCI is the Bees Knees while Win 333 is gonna be my go-to econo class..for now....I still want to test these loads at 50 75 and 100 yards to see whats best overall as far as trajectory consistancy over a 100 yard span. As far as the reliability goes, I shot close to 600 rounds that day (lots of metal target plinking) and I did not have one single failure, not one (Very Happy). My only gripe is DON'T buy the Barska Red-Dot electro sight I have!! It sucks! Adjustmets are crap and it does not stay zeroed. The NcStar scope works very well. Only problem with it I had is if I removed it from the gun and put it back on, I would have to re-zero it. It would be off by about 1 inch each time. But as long as I did not remove it, it stayed perfectly zeroed.

I have a quick question about .22lr bullet drop. I'm down at my local army range this Saturday and will be shooting on their 200m range, I was hoping to take the 15-22 with me and shoot off a load of CCI mini-mag. I'm very new to .22lr shooting, but i've been told high velocity will reach 200m. On a windless day what kind of bullet drop can I expect (new scope and i'll have to bore-sight it in my back garden at about 25m). Doesn't have to be exact, just need rough idea to get it on the target and i'll walk it in from there.

100yrds, roughly -5.7", 200yrds, -44".....quite a drop, this is calcuated off of federal 36grn hp. program.

aguila ammo

HI,
I was wondering if anyone knew what type of Aguila .22LR ammo does the Civilian Marksmanship Programs uses. I see that they have their own boxed ammo and I wanted to know more about it because you have to be a CMP member in order to purchase their ammo.
thanks,

quite a drop

I have a quick question about .22lr bullet drop. I'm down at my local army range this Saturday and will be shooting on their 200m range, I was hoping to take the 15-22 with me and shoot off a load of CCI mini-mag. Based on what I've read, with a 50 yard zero you will have over 50 inch drop at 200 yards (not meters but close). You can probably do it, but need a good scope and time to play with drop and then hope there is no wind when you shoot. Could be asking for a lot of fun - or some frustration. Good Luck

Brilliant, cheers guys. So at 200 yards a drop of 50 inches equates to about 25 MOA of adjustment I need to make? My scope should be able to do that. I know its asking a lot taking it out to 200 meters/yards, but I love shooting my M&P 15-22 so i'll take it along anyway and give it a try. I'll let you know how i get on. Thanks again.

I purchased a M&P 15-22 in April; the owner's manual is copyrighted 2009 & does not mention the "Not Recommended" or "Recommended" lists in the current ©2010 manual. The spring on top of the bolt is silver, not blue. I gather there have been problems observed with some ammo which Smith & Wesson attempted to correct with modifications to the recoil spring & ejector.

What is the time line for these modifications and which would a M&P 15-22 made Feb-March 2010 have?

I fired about 250 Remington GB loads & had several Failures to Fire. I only pulled I bullet & saw most of the priming compound was missing; others fired on a second strike; some never fired. I put these failures to bad ammo.
