AMMO TALK

Has any one tried the CCI Blazer. I `ve been shooting The 550 bulk Fed and CCI mini mag. Like the mini mag but a little expensive. 550 Fed leaving gun real dirty.I see the CCI Blazer in bulk for about the same price.
to Maverick88:
The CCI Blazers are excellent, cheap and accurate. I use them in my S&W 15-22, my SIG 522 and my PUMA PPS-50. I do not intend to ever use any of the others again. The CCI Mini-Mags are good but expensive and the same for Aguila Maximums.

I just put 50 rounds of CCI Blazer down range today with no problems. Right before that I had tried 50 rounds of Remington GB and had several FTEs and stove pipes.
I know 50 rounds isnt much to go on, but I was limited for time. But the CCI rounds shoot perfectly with out a hiccup.

When I have more time I will go through the whole box and take notes and report.

and yes, this is my first post in this great forum.
I will post up pics of my sexy beast soon.

I love the CCI blazers, that is about all I run anymore. I took the 15-22 to the range today and ran 12 mags through it, 1 of which was rapid fire the entire magazine. Not a single hiccup. I bought like 6 bricks at a place around here called Big R when they were on sale for $14.99 for 500 rds. Now that is cheap shootin.

I emailed CCI about their new round for the new AR style 22 long rifles that was shown on Guns&Ammo last week. This was the reply...
" This is our new CCI 22 AR Tactical round, Part 0953. This is a new CCI product for 2011, but some early sales went to Cabelas only. After Jan of 2011 it will be available at other retailers. "

So what are the characteristics of the CCI 22 AR Tactical round that make them unique/good for "22 AR's"? Standard velocity, round nose 40 gr bullet isn't anything special as far as I'm concerned. Is this just marketing? Probably more pricey than the value packs?

Gander Mountain has CCI Mini-mags 36 and 40 gr packs of 100 on sale for $5.99. These showed in the flyer from the newspaper I got today and were also in the flyer at the store. My Walmart has them for $6.49. My local Gander now has no more 36 gr packages, bought all 14. -- edit: checked the ad, says in-store only..

let me know how they go, i was actually looking for super-x and not the 555 pack as "super-x" is (marketed anyway) as the better item.

I finally got my lazy behind to the range to test the ExpertHvs. Ended up with 8 FTF/FTEs out of the 500. Not terrible I guess, Ill prob go back to mini mags.

lead

Having just used CCI Blazer For the first time and liking them a lot I was going to purchase 5000 at a good price. I decided to Google the difference between the lead bullet and the copper plated bullet. This was from Rainier Ballistics...

This is the PLATED bullet company. Lead or lead base bullets can put lead vapors in the air when fired. Lead inhaled can stay in your body for 40 years and damage your liver and brain. Copper plated bullets minimize lead vapor in the air. At the firing line, lead vapor from regular lead may be in the range of 43 micrograms compared to 1.7 micrograms for plated bullets. On indoor ranges, don't forget a LOT of lead vapor comes from the bullet hitting the backstop and splattering. All lead bullets will produce this effect except at special indoor ranges with special backstops and ventilation. Still, the more you cut down on vapors, the better and the bullets look pretty also. Rainier used a SWAGED bullet instead of a hot-cast bullet. This means formed from lead wire instead of poured into a mould. Then the bullets are copper electroplated completely. GUN WORLD and GUNS and AMMO magazines have had nice things to say about the accuracy of these bullets.

Do`es anybody have a issue with lead?

various 22LR ammo types by Aquila, @ Cabela's

In the Cabela's shooting catalog they have a few different types of 22LR ammo from a company called Aquila. They have 36gr copper plated hollow points in bulk for $85 per 2,100 rounds, One called the interceptor which is a 40gr, that shoots at 1,470fps for $50 per 500 rounds, a .22 super maximum that is 30gr and shoots at 1,750fps for $41 per 500 rounds.

they also have Federal bird shot rounds with #12 shot that goes for $105 per 500 rounds

Has anyone used any kind of Aquila ammo or heard anything about it?

First page of the tread discusses recommended and non-recommended ammo. Aquila has two in the recommended column. From reading it seams the better stuff to shoot is a little pricey.

I know this is an "area specific" question, but for those 15-22 owners in the San Francisco Bay Area, do you folks know anyplace in the San Francisco Bay Area where I can get Federal ammo? I've only seen Winchester, CCI and Remington for sale at the stores near me, but haven't found a place to get Federal ammo (I'm looking to pickup a bulk pack). Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Not from that area, but check WalMart if you have one.

Before shooting for groups, you should fire at least 20 rounds of the selected ammo in order to "season" the barrel to the lube used on the cartridge. If possible, clean the barrel between ammo types, but you still have to shoot at least 20 rounds to season the barrel. At that point, you'll see the best accuracy the selected ammo has to offer.

Anyone else compare the cci 36hp & 40rn besides the posts on page 3?

Gander Mountain has the 36 and 40 gr Mini-mags on sale again this week, in-store only. $5.99 per hundred.

Just ordered some on-line.

CCI .22LR 36GR MINI-MAG HP CPHP 500 ROUNDS
Item #428675 In Stock $29.99

That's 5.9 cents/round, or $5.99/100
With no tax and free shipping, that's a bargain for Mini-Mags!

Thanks for the heads-up Zamboni!

Although it was said that sub-sonic ammo shouldn't be used, I was wondering if the Agulia 60 grain load would work?
This stuff is murder in racoons!

I've shot a bunch of the Aguila SSS 60 grains with no problems at all. Would be a good solution for coons. I shot one last weekend and it took 3 Federal hollow points to finish him off, but I bet one of the Aguila SSS's would have done the job. Be aware that you will need to adjust your sights as it drops like a rock after about 25 yds.
