Hello,

At a gun show today, I picked up a Model 28, HWY Patrolman, that came with a holster I believe called the "Model 21, 34".

It is virtually identical to the holster pictured here:

http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-knives-collectables/100529-need-help-s-w-holster-19-64-a.html

The only difference is the on I have has the S&W logo on both of the snaps.

My question:

1) The seller of the model 28 said that this holster came with the gun. Is this an accurate statement, I never heard of that before?

2) The holster is in good condition, any idea on a fair market value? Not going to sell it, but understandably curious.

Thanks for your help in solving the mini-mystery :)

The holster could have come with the gun when he got it.
Holsters, smooth (unchecked) target stocks, Target triggers and hammers, etc... were many items sold as "accessories" in retail shops.
Gun shops sometimes installed these accessories on their own and may have given them away with a gun purchase to a regular customer.

Thanks for the additional info VM; have you seen this at auction or shows for sale?

Thank again--

I have a friend that is turning 80 years old this fall. He retired as a Police Officer in early 70's and then had a Gunshop for 20 years.
He did his own gunsmithing and the majority of his buisness was to LEO's. He sold many guns over a 20 year period and had a sucessful buisness.
I have acquired many "accessories" from him along with his stories and knowledge of what took place in a gunshop in the 1970's and 80's.

I'm sure he has some interesting stories! I'd be interested, as a younger collector to know what it was like collecting back then--that may be a new thread?

There is a shop around here that an older gentlemen runs; real nice guy, he always has coffee on for the folks that stop in. If you're in a hurry, don't bother, sometimes we'll talk an afternoon or a few hours just in the course of buying some gun oil. :)

The holster may have been bought with the revolver, but it is actually the wrong size for an N frame, it is for a K frame.
The size number "34" should be "24" for an N frame. That style holster though probably has enough give and
might have been oversize enough from the factory for the Model 28 to fit snuggly.
Typical prices run from $10-$20 for that holster.

Thanks KO for the price quotes; guess I'll have to keep working for awhile :D

I think the holster is pretty neat actually :) I think i'll keep an eye open for them in the future.

holsters

We sold a lot of holsters in the 70's and early 80's. that was when to get S&W's you had to buy accessories, x no dollars of accessories got you x number of guns. It was called tie-ins
back then smith made good stuff, weather it was leather ammo boxes it was well built, Still have the display racks, new in the box, talk about the good ole days.
bobbi.
