How about a thread about firearms, firearms features, customization, shooting games, or attitudes about firearms/shooting that you just don't like. It would be interesting to know what particularly doesn't "float one's boat" amongst the Forum readership if it can be done in a proper spirit, recognizing that there are no right or wrong responses and everything offered is only a matter of opinion and personal tastes. You can even dislike this topic thread and its original poster if you choose.

Here are a few for starters.

"Fitzed" triggerguards: Completely pointless and a loathsome, ugly mutilation of revolvers and some 1911s, this daft idea should have never been popularized.

Bobbed hammers: I'm no fan of DAO revolvers and sure don't like the notion of bobbing hammers of perfectly good revolver models with a single action feature.

Trigger guards with finger rests on their fronts as found on many automatic pistols: Just an ugly, distasteful offense to the eye and something I wouldn't use. Was looking at a SIG-Sauer P 220 the other day and thinking how much better it would look with the finger rest ground off and the trigger guard redressed.

Modern roll markings: Way, way overdone, these billboard sized markings seem to be shouting at us, as if the manufacturer wants to impart more to a product than the product really has. It's all about image these days.

Super-tricked-out and expensive 1911s. OK if recognized to be a hobby unto itself, but is it really all necessary? I really appreciate plain and serviceable 1911s. Ditto for the AR 15, the dress-up doll of the firearms world.

Some "action pistol" games: where one can almost miss fast enough to win. Parameters designed into the competition are cramped and occasionally unrealistic. The handguns used are so specialized. Fun shooting but verging on irrelevance.

Glocks: It must be recognized that the Glock has had a tremendous impact on handgun shooting, bringing countless shooters into the fold. More shooters is good for our side in the political football game of gun control. Glock would go out of business though, waiting on me to purchase the first one. Except for the novelty of plastic it is mostly a compilation of designs and ideas that can be traced to before World War II. Hugely overrated. A case of "The Emperor's New Clothes" with so many seeing way more than is really there.

A couple of peeves

Plastic frames...Glocks, etc.
AR's with a bunch of crap hanging on them.
Morons who insist on etching their name or SSN on a gun
plastic stocks on classic rifles

Ok maybe more than a couple:rolleyes:

I DO like a bobbed hammer, but only for one purpose, a snub that you put in your pocket so it dont ruin your pants and makes for a snag free draw. Plus with the bobbed hammer IF done right, you CAN shoot it single action when you feel like it. Here is my old one that got stolen. I miss it, but replaced it with a model 40. I will write latter about stuff I dont like latter, got to run, but felt I had to defend the bobbed hammer.

Sir, here are a few of mine:

* DA/SA automatics: Make up your mind, gun.

* Pistol-caliber carbines: All the bulk of a real rifle, without the range.

* 9 mm guns that are as big as .45s: Kinda missing the point of the 9 here.

* Big fat grips that only Franz Lizst could love: Not everyone can "palm" a car tire.

* Teeny-tiny little hideout guns that a third-grader would find too small

* Straight-grip stocks on rifles: Give me something to hold onto!

* Exotic ultralight alloys: Too expensive, kick too hard, and break.

* Lousy triggers: These seem to come standard on most guns now.

* The .357 magnum: Too much for a little gun, not enough for a big gun.

* The full-length underbarrel underlug on S&W revolvers: If I wanted a Python, I'd have bought one.

* Rifles that come from the factory with either no iron sights or just crude/chintzy buckhorn imitations: Not everyone uses scopes, and scopes can and do fail.

* The lack of reasonably priced spare barrels for the Ithaca Model 37: Is it really that much harder to make 'em for the Ithaca than for the Mossberg or 870?

I'm sure I'll think of more later.

Semper Fi,

Ron H.

Taurus owners who try to tell me that their revolver is just as good as an S&W....

People that buy guns and have the local 'smith do a "trigger job" before they even shoot it....

The constant barrage of articles in gun magazines that look like re-prints from 20-30 years ago...can't these guys find something new to write about besides the latest "must have" 1911 or what kind of crap that you "really need" hanging off your AR?

bmcgilvray hates Glocks. As I type this a G23 is holstered on my right hip. Bullseye hates 12 0z. 357 Magnums. A 340pd rests in my left front pocket as a BUG:)
I guess we're all different. That's what makes gun collecting so interesting. I have no desire to own an AR. They're one of the most sought after rifles out there. DA/SA pistols don't interest me. Lots of them sold every year. Every gun, no matter how ugly or seemingly useless it is will have some admirers. Same with every other product. Ford sold lots of Pintos.
The beauty of this forum is we can all have our likes and dislikes and remain gentlemen and ladies.
With the exception of the folks who like the IL. There's NO hope for them.:D

CCW targeted pistols in general.
Say what you will about shot placement, but try placing shots in the middle of the stress imposed by the PCP'ed up dude with the fire axe headed your way.
A 380 just aint going to get you home without at least a hospital stay

Nearly of the above, plus polychokes, internal chokes and barrels on modern shotguns that are "swamped" because they are so thin they have to be to accept internal chokes.

However, I don't mind the "Fitzed" stuff at all on pieces that can't be improved any other way.

Shaved Webleys, rebored Victories, Military rifle sporters that are far less than professionally done, synthetic stocks on just about anything that originally came with wood...and amateurishly reblued firearms of any kind, and any firearm with epoxy, duct tape or welds that can be seen holding on any part of it.

Oh, overpriced ammunition- I think we all can agree on that. :)

Yep, just about covers it.

I dislike AR rifles, accessory rails, Spray on finishes, Glocks, XDs, 20 round boxes of pistol ammo, and most anything they are currently hawking in the mainstream gun magazines.

"Teeny-tiny little hideout guns that a third-grader would find too small"

Yeah Ron, I forgot about those. I too really dislike the shrunken pistols passed off as suitable for concealed carry. There is a market out there for them however. Absolutely everything that makes a handgun marginally effective, from efficient cartridge to favorable handling characteristics, is sacrificed to convenience. It's got to be ever smaller and always lighter. The only thing that matters is that the handgun mustn't weigh any more than the smallest dime store water pistol ... without the water.

Gold plated anything on a gun. Don't care much even for the Brownings with gold triggers. Anodized pink, or blue, or red or orange guns. Making guns look like a cheap toy or an even cheaper piece of jewelry is reprehensible to me. Hanging 12 lbs of crap on a 6lb AR is perfectly fine........for an idiot.
Oh yeah, stock repairs involving tacks, nails, wire wrapping, or rawhide. Understandable in a pinch, yes, but only until replacement parts and/or a gunsmith can be located.

Stamped warning labels on guns. Yes, we know guns can be dangerous.

Safeties added to the Winchester M94, Marlin lever guns, and any other gun that was fine for a hundred years the way it was.

front of guard safeties (Winchester, Ruger 10-22). Any safety that requires your finger to be inside the trigger guard to use (browning, mini-14).
Hammer type single shot shotguns. (Love the savage 220.)
High priced .22 ammo that is so cheaply made it won't fire and/or function properly

Manual Safeties on Redundant Internal Safety, Striker fired Guns

Kind of like having a manual clutch
on a fully automatic transmission
