Gun Grievances: Things You Just Don't Like

I'm also NOT a fan of hooked trigger guards. Placing a finger on the front of the trigger guard has been "out of favor" since about 1980 because of it's negative effect on accuracy so why are we still "force fed" a needless feature.

I'm also not a fan of "tactical rails" on a handgun. IMO it's not very bright to mount a light on a handgun because you are providing an excellent target for an opponent to aim at. It's a handgun folks, learn how to shoot it with one hand and use the other to hold a flashlight, preferably well out of alignment with your body.

Practice with the 38 spl. and carry the 357 Magnum. I've shot both and the difference in recoil, POI, and the ability to execute a timely followup is distinctly different. If you want to carry with the 357 Magnum, then practice with the 357 Magnum. If you find you can't shoot the 357 Magnum worth a lick, it's a pretty good clue that the same will hold true when you actually need to defend yourself.

Let the rant begin!

1. Left wing anti-gunners who walk around with armed
bodygaurds!
2. Gun magazines. A bunch of corporate mouthpieces who would
not know an honest review if it shot them between the eyes.
2a.People who write to gun rags and complain about the knife
ads. How can you be into guns and not appreciate a fine
blade? They go together like peas & carrots.:D

Really expensive guns that do not work right out of the box and/or require a "breaking in period" to work correctly. Which they don't and need to go back to the company several times for repair.

"Gun magazines" You got that right!! Even the ones that were fairly good, now have a LOT of garbage in them!!!
I recently read an article in a well know magazine testing an expensive target gun that was shooting 4 inch groups at 25 or 30 yards!!!! Now that to me is not accurate with a target gun.In order to justify the test results the author said that the gun would at least hit a human torso at the noted range!!It was made to shoot targets ,not a self protection gun--sheesh !!!

Not a big fan of gun shows on TV that follow the same six competitive shooters around from match to match every week. Yeah, I know...it's bringing people into the sport. Or yet another skills drill with the AR. Yawn...and pass the DVR remote...

(No hard feelings, Jerry. I always stop to watch you punk the kids.)

Any 1911 style pistol with forward slide serrations. Unless it's sole purpose in life is to have a scope mount on it. I do not like the plethora of polymer guns (especially revolvers) that have flooded the market.

Tactical, or, "tacticool" firearms of any type.

Any firearm covered with rails.

People who dress up an SKS, a 10-22, or whatever, with all the latest gadgets, then try to sell it as "custom".

People wanting to trade their three POS firearms for your one quality piece.

I'm sure I'll think of more, I'll keep you posted.

1) DA/SA - an inelegant solution to a nonexistent problem.
2) Inexpensive 1911 pistols. It hasn't been done right for cheap.
3) The H-K LEM trigger. Second place to S&W M&P.
4) Colt revolvers with unshrouded ejectors.
5) WASR A-K's. Bring on the milled Polytechs.
6) Products of litigious companies.
7) The Infernal Lock
8) Single point slings
9) Nickel plated revolvers
10) Cordura nylon holsters
11) Clipdraw
12) .25 Automatics
13) RTFM roll-marks
14) Spent casings for the use of bureaucrats
15) ATF Form 3310.4
16) $200 tax to own a quiet gun

Well, I started out years ago thinking only a revolver would do...and now I don't own even one.

I have had polymer pistols, but now I am down to one (M&P9c) and I plan to trade it in on a SIG P239. I don't dislike polymer pistols, I just decided I wanted metal. I have SIGs, S&W 1911s, Colt 1911s, and Springfield 1911s...all in metal of one form or another.

I don't care for garish colors (like gold tone) or exotic grips, and so on...but then, one man's trash is another man's treasure, so whatever floats your boat is fine with me, as long as you extend me the same courtesy.

One gripe I really do have is with manufacturers who only give you one magazine. I think that is short-changing the customer...and if I was in charge of the company, I wouldn't alienate customers who I wanted to pay $1,000 or more for a pistol over a $35 magazine. That is simply bad marketing and corporate greed.

Scopes on revolvers.

The current trend in the military and police of carrying weapons muzzle down.

Most hunting shows on TV.

Warrior wannabees wearing camo, tactical gear, and guns at gunshows.

Magna-porting on anything .44 magnum or less. If you can't handle the recoil buy a lesser caliber or load it down.

Inline muzzleloaders. Muzzle loading season was intended for "primitive weapons".

anything not plated with some sort of Gold or jewelry:D:D:D

How about great guns w/ nice engraving but poor-fitting grips?;)
Internal Safeties... we may argue other points but I bet NO ONE likes these! S&W's IS are the UGLIEST!

Companies trying to make revolvers look like polymer framed auto's (i.e. Ruger LCR and some new Smith revolvers)
Gun lights on revolvers
Gun magazines pushing laser sights instead of sight alignment
"tactical" everything
Pushing the AR-15 with everything but a fork and knife attachment for home defense when a good 12 gauge pump will take care of the problem
Pushing huge calibers for whitetail deer when the .30-30, .308, and .30-06 have been doing it for decades
Gunwriters trashing old calibers so they can sell the newer ones
Bayonets for pistols (who allows those ads they look stupid!)
In Line muzzleloaders (any gun that has the smoke and fire should either be used with a flint, sidelock, wheel-lock, or a burning piece of slow match). If you want to hunt with a modern gun, hunt during the regular season.
Air soft guns, a good way to get someone killed by a LEO pretending to be ghetto
Gun ads that feature girls wearing nothing but the gun and a skimpy outfit. I want my kid to be able to read these mags I save when he gets older and into his teens, and we're trying to introduce youngsters, this isn't the way to do it.
Gunwriters who bash other gunwriters. We read because we want to read about the guns, not you guys acting like someone whizzed in your corn flakes
Gun magazines that list $1500 guns as "affordable". To whom?
Gun magazines that review $300 knives. I have a $15 Uncle Henry that I bought a few years ago, and it does everything, why do I need a $300 "tactical" knife I will be afraid to use for fear of breakage?
Gun magazines that allow ads featuring "badges" that say Concealed Carry or some other crap. Please lets give the anti's another reason to hate us.
The Smith .500. If it can't be done with the .44 Magnum. Stop trying.

The flat spot on the bottom of the K frame forcing cone. if SW could have "improved" the frame (like the "I"frame) just enough to eliminate it, the L frame would have never happened. Joe

The word platform makes me want to puke.

People on a mission-- so enthralled with themselfs and the task-- they have lost the fun of shooting.

Folks wearing drop leg holsters while target shooting.

Idiots taking out or putting away firearms while I am down range patching a target. (arriving or departing)-- WAIT TILL I GET BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Canned hunts suck!!!!!!

Guys that are too good to take advise/constructive criticism while the honey is around.

Guys telling me how to shoot before they see me shoot. Just wait till I pull the trigger and look at the hair that is not missing (it's turning white) and infer I have been shooting since your daddy was in kindergarten--- or longer. (I hear it from the 20 somethings)

The 9mm vs 45 debate--- shut up and shoot already.

This is one I usually keep to myself but you got me started.
People telling me about how they would shoot the bad guy in the back, drag him in the house if necessary-- tapering at least-- murder in some states.

People telling me that they will just blow them away and have the attitude that they just can't wait till it happens so they can see what it's like/justify the carrying of the piece.

People telling me..............

I will not go into details but!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You folks that say that (not seen it on this website), don't have any clue; as if you did, you would avoid the subject, pray that it dose not happen to you or your family, pray you don't have to talk with agents of the law/lawyers/family members, etc. Lose time, money, energy defending what you did, and not being to sleep at times during the night without seeing them in your dreams.

One of the most profound things I have ever heard was from the movie Unforgiven by Clint Eastwood. "It's helluva thing killing a man. You take away all he's got, and all he's ever going to have."

Please stay safe, live every day as if it were your last, don't forget to say I love you to your loved ones, and enjoy the shooting sports.

1. DA/SA semi auto's
2. Super expensive S&W revolvers that are no better than an older one.
3. Striker fired self defense guns with an out of the box 7-10 pound trigger.
4. Someone that cuts down the barrel of a nice revolver.
5. Those that advocate that one caliber is better than another.
6. The gun shop customer who knows it all because he doesn't do anything else with his life.
7. Guys that what their "girl" to shoot his 40 when she's never touched a gun before.
8. Three point slings for the average plinker.
9. Key board commandos
10. People who hate guns because they don't know the truth.

I agree with most of the suggestions so far.

I would "second" forward serrations on 1911s and the IL.

Beretta pistols--The ones I've handled are enormous for the caliber they shoot.

Auto safeties that go the wrong way. Everybody knows that down is "fire" and up is "safe." :)

Beavertails--they serve no purpose and are just something else to have to conceal.

Gunwriters who talk down to their audience. My experience is that, generally speaking, there are guys who know a lot and there are guys who constantly remind you how much they know. Don't be confused by the difference.

Poor ambassadors for our chosen pasttime (i.e. unsafe gun handling practices, boorish behavior, etc.)
