Well, got back home (roads suck) and have started to work on my cover. I will post some pics of the progress later today.
Very nicely done. I don't think you'll have to worry too much about the opening, it probably just needs to break in a bit more.
If it bothers you at all you can always try to put another turn on the spring, and you should if its slack when fully open.
looks great! Do you plan on doing some sort of a write up on it and how to make one?
I can definitely put something together if people want me to. I unfortunately didn't photograph the process, so I'd have to make another to show people.
@Citoriplus: The gun oil worked wonders! the cover now gets thrown all the way open by the spring.
If it's easy enough to make, then the tinkering crowd probably would not want a manufactured dust cover.
A machined and anodized few would be expensive for each one. Molded ones would match the look and feel of the rifle, plus they would be pretty light. Another option would be having them stamped, just like the AR dust cover. I can do any of those. If someone has some cash and you want to start a new business, contact me and we can get the details ironed out.
I would like to see some sort of write up. you dont even need photos, some paint drawings would work nice as well. Id really like to make one.
Hey guys, I posted a video of the dust cover in action so you can see how it works. I can do other videos of it if this one isn't detailed enough. Let me know what you think.
