I really like the soft case made by Boyt or SKB.

I second that. I like the SKBs for automatics and Boyt for revolvers. However, there are 2 versions of the Boyt case. You need to buy the ones with the outside pockets. I don't care about the outside pockets but the style without pockets has an exposed rivit on the inside by the front sight that will rub the finish from the sight.

A soft case will work for what your wanting to do and usually they r more durable than a hard case in the same price range.. the best case I'm my mind is going to be a pelican but you will need deep pockets

I second on the Pelican. There are three layers of foam, the middle is pre-scored so that you can pick the pieces out to custom fit just about anything. They are about the best protection you can have. I have a Canon camera with accessories, and it looks like it was made for it. They make just about every size that you could want. But like BELT FED says, they are not cheap. Go to their website and you will get an idea about what is available. The also have a silica gel cell that you can use to keep down moisture, which turns color when it is losing it's ability to do the job, and you just put it in the oven for a few hours and it is as good as new! My $.02 worth

I use Pelican for all my guns (and tools for work needs). They are more expensive but they have a lifetime warranty and are damn near indestructible. What I really like is the foam they use. You can custom fit your weapon to the case. I have one case that I use for the range. It has cut outs for each of my handguns and magazines. You could get something like a Plano double rifle case from Walmart or Cabellas. They are less than $30. You'll need a double gun case if you keep all your accessories (magazines, etc) with your gun. I tried a softcase, but it didn't work out for me. I'm to anal about scratching my guns and carry (way) to much accessories with my guns at one time.

Those pelican cases are HUGE and heavy...and like mentioned, really expensive. Go to Amazon.com. Search "rifle case". It'll give you more options than you can shake a stick at.

Measure the rifle and pick up a $20 soft case at any gun show. Only needed to keep the rifle from banging around in the trunk of the car while driving to the range. Pelican case might cost more than the rifle!

If all you are using it for is transporting to the range and back in your auto then a $20 Uncle Mikes soft case is all you will need. If it's being strapped to an off road vehicle and out in the elements that's another matter.... or when Belt_Fed was here the other day we had the bed of my pickup full of guns... hard cases are nice to keep the guns from banging around and the extra weight helps to keep them from flying out going down the highway.:D

Originally, I had planned on getting a Pelican or SKB hard case, and having the foam cut around all my parts and accessories so I could feel like some movie-style assassin, but they're $150-$200 and up. Worth it if you're going to be flying w/ them, or have some heavy traveling to do, but otherwise a soft case for $20-$30 does the trick for simple drives to the range. Plus they take up so much less space in the car/closet or whatever.

I ended up w/ some no-name bag from the local gun shop for $30. Plenty of room for the rifle, room for 4 mags, large carrying strap, pocket for targets/etc.

Case

I use both the Pelican and the Boyt cases depending on the application. One thing i noticed about the Boyt soft case for my handgun is that it has a canvas pouch on the inside to keep the handgun muzzle in place, Im not sure if their rifle cases are the same. That pouch is rough and causes undo wear to the muzzle of the handgun to the point that i put a ziploc bag over the muzzle when transporting it. I have thought about cutting the pouch out but have not yet.

I fit in the camp that transports rifles in the trunk of a car and find that the cheapo soft cases work well enough. I also have a couple cheapo hard cases that I'll use when the rifles are going in the bed of the truck and will be hauled off road a little. It is never rough off roading, but it is a little more and I have the hard cases. Either way, I've never noticed an issue with any of my rifles that I could have related to the cases.

I'm sure there are many people out there who actually need the better cases, but I'm not one of them.

Here in holland we have a lot of soft cases, the few hard cases are mostly cheap looking aluminium cases.

Didnt want a soft case, so it had to be a hard case, the aluminium ones look awfull, so I had no other choice but to get the Pelican case and kit it out like an assassin ;) (as Corpulent said).

I get it with a 20% discount via work, and as i'm a bit clumsy and I expect i'll drop the case a few times atleast. With the pelican I know the gun will be safe.

if you plan on spending more than $70 you might as well just go buy an expensive hardcase. otherwise get a cheap soft case. the thing that is most beneficial to me about the hardcase is that i can keep other people out of it.

I needed a cheap hard case and for the price, this one
Amazon.com: Plano Pillared Single Scoped Gun Case: Sports & Outdoors
isn't bad. Yeah, the plastic isn't thick, and I wouldn't fly with it; but it holds the rifle secure, has room for extra mags, glasses, etc. It's probably the best hard case you can get for under $30. Holds the rifle securely and is good for local transport...don't fly with this model. I am however looking into getting a soft case though as my optics are a little tall for this making it so I've yet to zero it as I'd like to leave them on once zero'd.

i just got this one, its built well and holds the gun secure with lots of padding on both sides and its not to expensive.

MOLLE-204 - ModGear OD Green Ultimate Carbine Case 36x12x4" Outside Pockets for Weapons Ammo Magazines and other Gear

I have this one in olive drab:
UTG Ultimate Combat Weapons Rifle Gun Case with 3 Detachable Side Pockets Nylon - MidwayUSA

Which appears to be identical to yours, except the two inside pouches also have PALS webbing on them, which allowed me to attach these to one side:
Voodoo Tactical M-4 Pistol pouch
MOLLE Triple Pistol Magazine Pouches, Mag Pouch

This way I can carry my 92fs or 1911 and their magazines inside the big outer zipper pouch without them rattling around the inner velcro pouch. I could get another set of pistol and mag pouches for the other inside panel and carry both pistols along with the rifle if I wanted.

For something you can fly with, and spend about a hundred less than a Pelican, check this out.
CASE-055 - Case By Starlight Cases Designed for Carbine Length AR-15 Rifles
Looks like the same stuff Pelicans are made of and you can fit this soft case inside so you can have both the soft and hard case for travel at the same time.
Bag that goes in it
MOLLE-207 - ModGear Army Digital Ultimate Carbine Case 36x12x4" Outside Pockets for Weapons Ammo Magazines and other Gear

Here's mine:

$17 before shipping. They also have a version with more pockets too. Have had it for 2 months or so and it's held up well, I have no problems with it. I don't own a safe so this is where it sits in a lot. I think you might be able to fit two 15-22 mags in there? Weird that I haven't tried that haha
