Ruger Stainless 1911 (Update See Last Page)

I have enjoyed this thread in that I am new to the 1911 family. Yeah, Last month I bought a Colt Govt. Model Series 70 in bright Nickle. Don't ask me how much I paid, I'm still shaking my head over it. What a wonderful pistol though.

I'm looking for more of a "shooter" though and this Ruger has my interest but I will tell you, the new Remington R1 is cheaper and looks better...in my opinion.

What to do...what to do.

Ruger 1911(Acme, by Whammo)

So Ruger is jumping on the bandwagon.....just in the nick of too late. I love the 1911 design like no other, but I think Ruger should go back to what they know and do well, Like Gutpile Charlie says.............,Wheelguns and 77's. As for the only 1911 being a Colt, there sure are some short memories for their "quality control" issues. Like anything man-made, it can be a great thing or a great big piece of junk. My 1958 National Match Colt is INCREDIBLE, but that is when they were hand-fitted and things were done with pride and prestige, not hurry-up and shove it out the door so the bean-counter is happy. My Dan Wesson is a reliable shooter, and my Wilson Combat is a great gun. My Sig P-220 is worthy of life-trust any day, all day!! OMG, they are not Colts!! Nice to stand behind a product or name, just realize they are all made by man and subject to short-comings. I'm sure Ruger will do just fine with the 1911 they put out as all the others have. Good luck to any firearms manufacturer of today as for all the GovernMENTAL Bravo Sierra and taxes they must be responsible for!!! JMO

Everyone is different (that's a good thing) and we all like different things. I like guns that have character, like some motorcycles do. I find S&W revolvers to fit that description pretty well and most 1911's as well. Commercial FN bolt action rifles of yesteryear also slide into that.
A 1911 that works as it should bearing the Ruger name is cool to me and there's a lot of stuff available to do anything I may decide to do to it. (I actually sorta like it as is)
It would make an excellent car & carry gun for when I travel.

Has a "Recall" been issued for them yet?

Can't wait to have a couple of them, but I'll wait till after the first couple of recalls.

Rule 303

I will be SERIOUSLY disappointed if they have a recall on them.
100 year old design, currently made with GREAT success in other countries with a lot less tech, research, and development behind them.
I would like to look at the commander when they bring it out.

Based on Ruger's checkered past with new product introductions, their awful P series semi-autos, and even my experience with my most recent Ruger acquisition, an M77-44, which needed a Timney sear kit to fix the intolerably heavy out-of-the-box factory trigger, I'd wait until the bugs have been exterminated and the wrinkles ironed out of the production guns before plunking down my deposit.

If I were in the market for a 1911, I'd probably take a closer look... after the gun had been out for at least a year so they could work out the bugs and I could see if they recall it... :)

I think the beauty of this is that Ruger is very good and efficient at manufacturing and distribution. We could well see the SR1911 discounted down to what, $600-650.00 by places like Bud's? At that price they are going to really put the hurt on Colt, Kimber and the rest...

Ruger's latest handgun introductions, the LCP and LC9 are being very well received -- no checkering that I know of. I don't think there will be a lot of "bugs" to iron-out with the SR1911 as there is obviously nothing groundbreaking about its design. I do suspect that Ruger will make a few variants of it though so depending on one's taste it might be good to wait.

FWIW there is nothing "awful" about the P series. It's an inexpensive and extremely robust design that just the right gun for many applications.

I like Rugers and have a few but the LCP was introduced too soon.

There was a massive. complete recall on all the original ones.

They worked, it was a safety recall. Maybe someone dropped it from a 20 story building and it went off. I don't know.

That being said, they fixed them (a lot of them) and they are great little guns. I got a free hat and extra magazine for my trouble so that was a nice gesture.

Every gun manufacture has new introduction problems so it's good to wait a bit.

Made in USA
Ruger customer service is top notch.
Competitively priced stainless

Living behind the tofu curtain, an SR1911 is gonna have to have some stuff I don't like. I can buy other 1911's that don't have said "features."

I doubt Ruger will be offering a Kalifornia compliant version. There is always the single shot exemption. Kinda a PITA.
What's currently non-compliant from a California standpoint? It should be able to go right on the roster without any changes and given the huge CA market I suspect Ruger will make the effort.

No Loaded Chamber Indicator that meets Kali standards. The hole doesn't cut it.

No mag disconnect.

Not sure of details but I believe Kali requires a firing pin block safety or somesuch.

Everything I've heard is that Ruger has no plans for a Kalifornia model. :(

Other 1911s are grandfathered. That's why they can sell them here. The SR1911 is an entirely "new" model, 100+ year old design notwithstanding...

We won't be seeing the Colt Commemorative either.
