What portion of your individual state's concealed carry law would you most like to see repealed?

For me, it is requiring notification of a resident that you are armed before entering a home. Since OC is legal and a resident can see the gun, there is no requirement to notify. Yet if I go to someone's home to interview them, I have to inform them I am armed.

Removal of the requirement to "promptly" notify an LEO that you're carrying.

It's been abused by police here at least twice, and probably more often (a list is currently being compiled by Ohioans for Concealed Carry).

Fortunately, people are working on a repeal effort even as I type this. The video of Officer Harless of the Canton PD is going to be a BIG help in that effort.

Your a LEO and you have to advise someone your armed before entering a premises? That makes absolutely no sense at all.

Actually it does.

A LEO cannot carry into a bar unless he is called there on official business.

I go to interview people or question them. I am not called into their residence at their request on official business and most of the time they would rather I not be there. Most of the time, I am looking for a witness, a participant or following a lead. Still I am there on my own volition and not assigned there.

What would I like repealed?

Several years ago Virginia was considering a LIFETIME CCW but, budget probems have made us renew every 5 years.

Gee - that does seem a bit weird. I don't think anyone in Indiana would expect a police officer to be other than armed, whether the gun could be seen or not, so I guess to us simple-minded Hoosiers it is a waste of perfectly good hot air. :D

I have no complaints about Indiana law in this context. In some ways, I think we might be better off if our laws on the subject were a little more structured, but I don't feel like asking to be hit in the teeth just now. :)

The restriction on carrying in race tracks and sporting arenas. I believe this is because of alcohol sales yet we're allowed to carry in restaurants that serve.

Does any state other than Louisiana forbid carry at a parade?

It must be remembered that Louisiana has the best politicians money can buy.

Great question.. I would like to see permit holders carry anywhere. I mean anywhere. That includes airports, restaraunts, bars, nightclubs, race tracks, sports stadiums, casinos, hospitals, and yes boys and girls, schools and college campus. I mean K through graduate school. If you are licensed why prohibit carry anyplace. The license is the "well regulated" referred to in our Constitution. I do not worry about a bunch of carry folks starting shootouts at 35,000 feet, in saloons, playgrounds, ICU's or anyplace else but its nice to be able to protect yourself, your family and if necessary others...remember when seconds count...cops are only minutes away

This pretty much sums up how I feel. But add that I don't see the reason for no weapons on government land.

We have a no firearm zone around schools. Technically, I am in violation of this since I live next door to a school. School property starts at my back fence, so I'm maybe 20 yards away as I type this. I don't want the kids taking guns to school, but a sign that says "no guns" isn't going to deter someone with bad intent, and a teacher or other responsible adult with a firearm could be a lifesaver.

There are so many "exceptions" where a licensed person can't carry in this state you can't keep track.

I live in Vermont, where concealed carry is legal, no permit needed!

Of course, that means that we have no reciprocity with other CCW states...so having no permits is not always a good thing!

We in NC need to eliminate the restricted zones... Schools, Govt property, etc... I sometimes work at night at a property owned by a University. No teaching takes place here, but as Educational Property, I cannot carry or have a firearm in my vehicle even though it is dark and isolated.

Here in wa state, guns are completely banned from all school grounds including any places a school might rent for an event.

There are a few reasons this bothers me. First, is anything in existance more valuable than our kids? Don't they deserve protection? Could you imagine a gun free zone at a state capital or a bank? The real sickos, the absolute evil BGs, the ones that aren't just out to steal or pillage, but that just want to lash out seem to target kids. Columbine or many other school shootings, Norway, va tech, ect. Would a trained and lawfully armed parent or teacher have been able to stop these things? Probably not. Would the killers have had as much free time to kill innocents before being confronted? No.

The second reason is the rise of drugs and crime in some of our schools. I attended high school in LA county in the mid 90s and I personally saw guns in the hands of bangers and of non gang members who thought it was a good idea carry for protection. I knew kids that sold drugs and knew of adults that supplied them often on or near campus. Whereas I would never ever allow my kids to attend these schools and can't imagine ever walking into that situation again, I belive that folk that do should be able to carry legally.

I'd like to see two changes to the Texas law:
1. Drop the provision that a renewal applicaion (every 4 years) has to include a fingerprint card; like my fingerprints are going to change after 4 years. It's just more administrative hoops we have to jump through, particularly as only certain agencies are able to take our fingerprints. Expensive, too.

2. Permit CCWs in places serving alcohol. Whether I'm drunk or not doesn't change whether someone else may put my life in danger.

Georgiacarry.org has done a good job of getting the carry laws clarified. Now, instead of the vague "public gathering" restriction, there is a list of specific "prohibited places." The laws on school zones have been clarified and adjusted so that people are not unintentionally in technical violation when they go to pick up kids, etc. It is much better than it was just a few years back, and it is 99% the work of GCO. It will likely never happen, but I believe a person who has undergone a background check should be allowed to carry most anywhere he/she wants. It is better here than in most states, though.

According to the Brady bunch criteria, Georgia scores 8 out of 100 points on their scale. Calif. scores 80, NJ 72, MD 45, SC 10, TX 6, FL 5, just to name a few.

Concealed carry is allowed in places that serve alcohol in Texas unless they are posted with the red 51% sign. Carrying while drunk will get you a ride and at least an unlawful weapons carrying charge and permit suspension/loss. No alcohol while carrying is the best way.

Actually I'm the only person I trust with a loaded gun. So I insist that everyone, including LEO, tell when they enter my space that they are armed. Of course I do not need to, as concealed is concealed.

Louisiana also allows carry in restaurants or other places that serve alcohol. The banned areas are those that make 51% of their income from the sale of liquor.
