Discreet vs Concealed Carry

I have in fact MORE of a right than a cop does to a gun. And quite frankly most people on here are MORE qualified than MOST cops to carry a gun.

I do not care what he does but he said in his interview with ABC that he carried openly to discourage more robberies since he has been a victim of prior robberies.

He bought a gun and carried it without training. OC apparently is legal in his state. Yet common sense says he should have learned to use it before carrying it.

What good would that have done since the gun was taken from him before he could use it, correctly or otherwise?

I carry concealed about as much as I do openly but never had anyone try to take my gun nor have I heard of such happening until the above mentioned incident.

So you have no idea whether someone could take it from you then. And if they did, all you training would be for naught - Including that Ninja move you mentioned where, although the simple fact that you carrying open makes you the focal point of the room, you have the ability to draw your weapon without bringing as much attention to yourself as someone who is carrying concealed.

Ok, I owe some an apology here. After the flack over a common expression around here, I went to the word origins book I have and found that many years ago, "light in your loafers" had a different meaning that did refer to a man's sexual preferences. However I found the expressional meaning was during WWII and has grown to mean someone not using good thought process in later years. I had never heard that meaning before this morning when I was reseaching it.

I did not mean any sexual reference and sincerely apologize to any that may have been offended.

Hey, it happens. Funny how words & phrases "evolve" with the times. Years ago if I talked about my "partner", people automatically knew that it was a guy I worked closely with. Not so much these days, though!

Easy. My rights are specifically specified in the US CONSTITUTION. And they work for ME.

Times change. When I was a young kid, gay had a different meaning. A hard drive was when you had to travel a long way in a short time. Many words we say today is no longer proper. An attorney was sued for telling his personal secretary he liked the dress she bought. She claimed sexual harrassment. She also won because he would not have said that to a male employee. Over the years, I have told many co-workers they looked good. Not any more. I keep my hands off of shoulders, backs or any other place on the employees. No more walking up behind them and putting a hand on a shoulder or such. No more asking about their weekends or vacations. The world has became too paranoid about words, actions and are now too ready to file a suit.

That's sad. This society has become so P.C. it's improper to ask a civil question without some threat of litigation. And the original question about concealed carry vs open has many attorneys licking there chops to get something like that into court.

In GA as a CCW holder (or now a Ga Firearms License) you have the option of open or concealed carry.

This is just a question for other people out there to see what you think and do.

Since this law passed I find my self really going by a discreet carry type of scenario MOST of the time. I don't really care for all the questions I get when I carry openly and I don't really like IWB or deep concealment options so I just cover my gun. I don't care if it prints or etc.

What about you guys in areas like us where either is an option? What are you doing?

While we have both open carry (no permit required) and CCW (permit required) in WV, we do not have an option for "discreet carry."

If CCW, the firearm must be concealed in such a way that the average Joe cannot reasonably tell you are carrying a handgun.

If open carry, it must be fully visible from 3 sides.

WV has the same law as most other places. If you can't actually see the gun it's concealed. I wouldn't wear skin tight Underarmor but anything sensible should be fine.

A deadly weapon is concealed when it is carried on or about the person in such a manner that another person in the ordinary course of events would not be placed on notice that the deadly weapon was being carried.

Being from Vermont I find these posts very interesting. OC, CC, when and where you can and can't, etc. State like Texas, according to politicians and others, are independent thinkers free of liberal bias. It sounds hypocritical to me to tell everyone how "independent" your state is, then passing such complicated and restrictive gun laws.

Wait, isn't that what the concealed carry folks are doing? If anything the concealed crew is much more feverous. I rarely hear of open carry supporters ridiculing folks for concealed carry, which is a common tactic of the concealed carry crew and represented well in this thread.

43 States have some provision for open carry. Clearly it's not as taboo as the anti-gun-gun-crowd would make it sound. If you listen to the intensity of the rhetoric you'd think someone was advocating marrying their sister.
