Don't know much about the 28's, on the rear sight were they factory in the smooth non-serrated configuration? No ribs on the barrel either? Certainly would have kept the cost down.

Nice catch, that's about as nice a 28 as I've seen. I presume the grips are numbered to the gun? They look like the originals. Any box, papers, etc.? You're going to love the way it shoots.
Congratulations on the purchase of the 28-2. The 28-2 is an identical revolver to the model 27-2 except for two things. The 28-2 doesn't have the high luster blue of the steel checkered top strap. S&W did this to lower the cost to LEO's and LE agencies.

I have a M28-2 in similar condition. You will love it. The workhorse of the Smith family. Just in the last couple of years, in my area, they have become rather hard to find, in good shape. The prices have jumped also. Great find, and congrats!

I was looking at 27s, but went with the 28 because of price and finish. The 27 came with a nicer finish, but I think the 28's finish holds up better. The same condition 27 would probably go for a few hundred more.
I have seen quite a few 28s, but rarely in such good condition. Prices have gone up which I wasn't happy about, but I still think that a 28 in such good condition was worth what I paid for it.

I allways thought the six inch 28's (N ser)came with target ,and the
4 inch came with magnas.

Congrats a real good looking M-28. Very nice.. There starting to grow on me for sure..
Thanks. I haven't had a chance to take it out to the range, but I will probably get out there in a couple of weeks. I hope it shoots as well as it looks.

28's are just 27's without the "bling"
I have 3 28's, and recently passed on a 27 that had been reblued for $450, I figured why get a re-done 27 when I can get a decent original matte finish 28 for about the same $$.
28's are rising in price too, though........it wasn't too long ago you couldn't give a 28 away, and now they are becoming popular, as are all the "good old S&W's".

That is a might nice piece, and will be a real workhorse. I do not have one, but I have some Model 27's. I noticed scratch marks on the face of the cylinder. Most likely from hitting the back of the barrel on closing. This could mean some endshake or a barrel/cylinder gap that is too small. It is easily fixed. Check it out.

I have a 64 that scrapes the cylinder face on the forcing cone when you close the cylinder, but when it's closed, there is 0 endshake and the b/c gap is a perfect .05.
I saw the scratches and ring on the cylinder. I thought those marks were more because of the way the cylinder was closed. It locks up pretty well though. Probably should have it looked at though.
