.38 Spl. +P 158 gr. Lead Round Nose

Paul, um, Bill who?

I just don't like light for caliber bullets, never have, just me and certainly not for everyone.

There was a time where 110gr jacketed 357Mag bullets were used too but then they found that they were bouncing off of windshields. Not that I plan on shooting a car but, hey, ya never know! ;)

I would imagine that it would penetrate clothing that was worn down south 90% of the time. Up here, maybe what was worn 50% of the time! ;)

I played with the 110G in an old 38 snub .... while working up a load for it, I was firing at a phonebook.
looked, no holes .. tried again at close range .. no holes, tried again standing over the target .. no holes but I felt something hit my shin ....
you guessed it ... I technically shot myself:eek:
thats when I noticed the slight round impressions in the phone book cover ... I shook the 110G out of my shoe where it came to rest, and worked on a different load using a 147G DEWC and left it an arm of absolute last resort

I shook the 110G out of my shoe where it came to rest,
I can assure you that wasn't using what I load.

I did shoot an armadillo one time, over 40 years ago, with a Speer 146 gr JHP half jacket loaded with 10.0 gr of AL-8 using a Chief's Special. The results were so unspectacular I sold the Chief's Special and went with a M28 and 125 gr Sierra JHCs with a heaping boatload of SR 4756. Yes, the 125 will kill a deer at 45 yards. ;)

It might be well for some Indiana residents to look at the accomplishments of one of their own, with light and fast bullets.

BTW, it was Brian, not Bill. I don't know where I came up with the wrong name, I guess it must be "old timers" setting in.

well, I'm not looking at these as self defense load entirely. I load my gun with good .158 gr LHP +P factory ammo that will stop a bad guy. BUT I would like something special, if need be, to drop into my cylinder and penetrate barriers that conventional factory ammo will not and save my life

While the rn may penetrate as well as the swc, it is very prone to not continuing in a straight line after contacting things.

LHP factory bullets are soft lead made to expand in soft tissue and not penetrate "barriers" If you want barrier penetration (as mentioned) use FMJ non HP or some of the better brands of bonded FMJ HP like Rem Golden Sabers, Winchester PDX1, etc, etc
They will pretty much cover all bases. But even a 38 +P can only do so much.

right. that's why I was saying "if LHP won't do the trick, then I'd like to dump them out of my cylinder, reach into my pocket and drop a speedloader full of something that might get through a barrier"

Just me, but I would just load up with one of the factory ammos I mentioned and not be concerned. You have barrier and bad Guys covered.

Works for the FBI.

about the only way you'd pull that stunt off is if what is behind the barrier isnt shooting back.
you must think in crude actions in a gun fight.
Your 38 spec chambers will shrink to 17 cal, your adversaries 9MM bore will grow to 155MM.
Your lucky if you reload with anything at all and not jam your gun with tootsie rolls in the chambers.
use something that works the first time and leave the puzzle games to Milton Bradley

Well, of course there are a lot of variables involved in a gunfight. But I'll just say I'm not envisioning standing in the middle of an open parkinglot unloading and reloading my gun with a bad guy is hiding behind some kind of barrier and expect him not to shoot back

To the level you train, to that level you will perform.

No one, that I know of anyway, practices with live rounds coming in at them. We can THINK scenarios through, we can debate this or that, but until it breaks loose, no one KNOWS what they are going to do. Hopefully, we will have spent time in preparation an we will be better than the bad guy, (think gangbanger with gun held sideways) and his training.

But, remember the cop that practiced shooting twice and reloading, shooting twice and reloading, shooting twice and reloading, that was found shot to death with three magazines around his body that were all full, save two rounds.

Think about your training. ;)

your probably not envisioning your own performance with "NO WAY I'LL LIVE THROUGH THIS!!!!!!!!!" racing through your head.
few actually do, unless of course, they have had "NO WAY I'LL LIVE THROUGH THIS!!!!" racing through their head, like me.
My "NWILTT" moment was with a bear, a 44 and bunny puff loads.
Speed loaders ... good idea. Not a great one though. I had three of them and I can tell you that in a "NWILTT" moment they are not nearly as easy to aim at the charge holes as they are on the range.
you might drive em home with some cussing or you might not get it done in time.
try to get it done with whats in the gun. any strategy that involves removing unfired rounds in favor of something else is to be re evaluated.
