The SD line just hasn't reached the sales quantity of the Sigma line. I think the major reason is the price.....you have the Sigma which can be had for under $300 then for $75 can get the SD the problem is that if a person is willing and able to spend an extra $75 they more than likely will spend just a little more and get the M&P with far more options for around $430.

The SD to me is a failed effort if I was in the market for another poly gun and wanted to go with S&W it would either be another Sigma or the M&P as the SD really doesnt offer that much more over the Sigma but the M&P offers much more than the SD.

I agree. After buying a Sigma 40VE 2 years ago I planned on getting another in 9mm. The Sigma has been great and the price is even better. Less than $300 out the door here. But, after the SD came out I decided to get one of those instead. I went back and forth all summer on buying one and finally put the cash together and hit the gun store last Oct. the SD's were on sale for $359 from $379. The sales guy handed me an SD and I handled it for a minute or two. Right there and then I had a change of heart. I remember looking down through the glass display case and seeing a Sigma for $279 and the M&P's for $459. I don't know, the SD to me seemed like an all black Sigma with a slightly lighter trigger. I realized I didn't want it that bad, I could just get another Sigma in 9 for $80 less or an M&P 9 for $100 more.

I ended up leaving empty handed and I'm glad I did. I really didn't 'need' another 9mm anyway, have 3 others. I like buying new guns but I want to be excited about the new gun too. I'm sure the SD is a great handgun but I'd be fine with another Sigma for $279, it's such a great deal! I may even save up a little more and go ahead and just get an M&P.

Honestly id say they will keep both as the Afghanistan government has bought 10,000's of the Sigma along with our own Military....not for US use but distributed to local military and police units in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as for use by coalitions forces.

It all comes down to money as long as product X is bringing in more money than operational and repair cost they will keep it forever.

I was surprised to see that the remaining SD Series pistols were on closeout at two distributors, with some already missing from the online computer listings available to dealers.

This usually means either: (1) the pistol is being completely discontinued; or, (2) a different SKU number is being assigned and the pistol, with some sort of change will remain in production, but with a different SKU number.

Does anyone have any inside information?

I don't have in sider info on this , but from different articles I've read I heard its the Sigma line that is being considered for cancellation.

No not banned just some log in problems plus I was away on buisness. Thank you! Retired Military Police. Google some reviews on the SD's I believe thats where I read that.

I bought an SD today and I have to say I am impressed. I am a Glock guy all the way but this SD is nice. I think this business about the SD being discontinued has to be rumors.. When i bought my gun today at kittery trading post in maine the place was packed and they had at least 20 sales people their. The guy who waited on me sold four sd's himself today. I called them early and they had plenty now they have two left. All in one day. He said they are selling very well. I liked the gun a lot even the trigger. I bought the 9mm with light and vault but the did have 40's. Can't wait to shoot it. If it shoots as good as it looks I'm in business I have to say.

I bought my SD40 a few months ago because it fit my hand so well and I liked the front night sight and the improved trigger over the Sigma. So far I'm very happy with it!

However, if S&W were to eliminate the intermediate pistol, I don't see why they would chose the SD. To me a better choice would be to eliminate the Sigma and retain the newer SD.

Good call, amigo! Well, it actually looks like they got rid of both, but they're calling the new animal an "enhanced" SD (even tho I understand the "enhancement" is a cheapening of it). Gotta love marketing! Anyhow, I'm sure it's a good product.
